Guest guest
URGENT ACTION NEEDED from Moraga Area Residents: Voice Your Opposition to Town Officials' Support of a Return Visit of Carson & Barnes Circus A coalition of Moraga-area organizations plans to sponsor Carson & Barnes Circus' return trip to Moraga next year. This group has asked the town of Moraga to support its plans by providing police and public works support for this event. Because of citizens' concerns about the town's support of such a dangerous and cruel activity, Moraga Town Council members will hear public commentary regarding this issue at their meeting tomorrow night. A strong showing of opposition is needed to stop the town from signing a contract that would ensure that Carson & Barnes Circus comes back to Moraga next year. Carson & Barnes Circus has a long history of serious federal Animal Welfare Act violations. It was recently fined by the USDA for improper handling of animals based on an undercover video that caught Carson & Barnes elephant trainer Tim Frisco viciously attacking elephants and yelling, " Sink that hook into them, " " Hurt them, " and, " Make them scream! " In the video, the elephants emit screams of agony while recoiling from the assaults. Frisco instructs other elephant trainers to rip the sharp metal hook through the elephants' flesh until they cry out in pain and warns them to conceal the beatings from the public. Click here to view the video. In addition to animal suffering, another serious issue associated with using dangerous animals is one of public safety. Animals who are subjected to frequent transport, foreign environments, and crowds of strangers often experience stress, which makes them more vulnerable to illness and disease and may cause their temperaments to become unpredictable. What You Can Do Please attend the above-mentioned meeting and show your opposition to Moraga's support of cruelty to animals and public safety hazards.
