Hello -

Thanks to all who wrote the F & G Commission demanding a ban on the

controversial " roboduck " decoys. I appreciate--those letters will

help, since the Commission is hearing mostly from duck hunters.

QUESTION: We're thinking about doing a demo at the Santa Rosa

Commission on THURSDAY, AUGUST 28, 9:00 A.M., but we need some

commitments NOW to see if it's doable. Elliot Katz (In Defense of

Animals) has volunteered two of his staff to attend, as well as make a

few signs. If we can do this, I'll send out the appropriate Press

Releases to the media, maybe rent a duck costume, see if I can borrow a

" roboduck " for show-and-tell. All ideas/suggestions welcome (be

nice!). (Maybe the Commission will do the right thing if they know the

media is watching.) I've also sent out about 15 Letters to the Editor of

Bay Area newspapers--please send me copies, should you see any in print.

MOST IMPORTANT: Let me know ASAP (today or Sunday, if you can) if

you're willing to help with the demo, and/or if you plan to

attend/testify at the Thursday hearing (10:00 a.m.). (Virginia Handley,

of The Fund for Animals, and I have a meeting with Commission president,

Mike Flores, Monday afternoon, to discuss F & G issues--will keep you

posted.)

Relatedly, I've drafted a display ad for the Santa Rosa PRESS-DEMOCRAT

which I hope to run this Wednesday--it'll probably cost four or five

hundred dollars, so some financial aid would be greatly appreciated.

(No donation too small!).

Thanks for your consideration and prompt response.

For the ducks,

Eric Mills, coordinator, ACTION FOR ANIMALS, tel. 510/652-5603

P.S. - Please forward this message to any of your friends who might be

interested in this issue.

P.P.S. - Really good article on roboducks in the 8/13 edition of the

SACRAMENTO BEE by reporter Ed Migale ( " Hunters split on roboducks " ).

Search on Google, type in " roboducks, " and it should come up. Provides

some good info for those planning to testify at the hearing. And check

MADDUCK.ORG, too.
