Guest guest
Hi folks, There are many different folks on this list, each with our own reasons for choose a veg lifestyle -- ethical, health, spiritual, environmental, curiosity, who knows! We all choose to be here because we want to be part of a larger vegetarian community. Knowing the diversity from which we come to our veg lifestyle makes me appreciate the the thoughtfulness and consideration that has gone into nearly everyone's response on the discussion of foie gras. I say nearly everyone because there was that singularly angry and insulting email. I responded more to that abuse of our mailing list than with an opinion on the actual topic. I almost responded to the first anti-vandalism email that said something about silence is complicitly supporting the vandalism. From past experience, I know that just because folks don't comment publically doesn't mean that they aren't out there with their opinions. That's why I didn't saying anything until the members in our community were called " otherwise useless people " . From my email, I received many private, supportive responses, and I appreciate each one. Anyways, I know there is no easy answer to the discussion / the debate on the pro's and con's of the vandalism at the foie gras business in Sonoma. The whole issue of what is best way to propel animal rights into the mainstream is something that many have discussed, and there are many varying opinions (as we've seen here in our own community list) Anyhows, I wanted to echo Marcy's sentiment from a few days ago ... and encourage folks to move on. Folks still interested in this topic, may I suggest that you continue this discussion in the bulletin board in the animal rights forum http://www.generationv.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=3 That way folks that are interested in the debate can continue it there, and the rest of us back to whatever we were working on before (for me, that's details of vegan brunch this weekend, AR 101 soon approaching, vegan camping trip the weekend after, evaluating outreach opportunities, etc.) Cheers, Tammy List Owner -- Perform a death-defying act...
