Guest guest
Hello Everyone! When I saw the postings about great vegan breakfasts and brunches - I just had to post this review. For an amazing vegan and organic breakfast/brunch S.F. and Bay Area folks MUST come on up to Sonoma County to experience brunch at Sparks! Since moving to Guerneville (from S.F.) my family and I are continually amazed by the delectable delights at this gourmet restaurant in our new hometown. Although it takes about an hour and a half to get here (101 North - then either 116 to Sebastopol and on into Guerneville, or through Santa Rosa to River Road on into Guerneville) it is SO worth the drive. Slice of Life in Sebastopol has a good breakfast, but Sparks is divine! A few items on the menu: faux eggs benedict, mushroom and cashew gravy over homemade biscuits, pancakes, french toast, homemade pecan sticky buns, and tofu scrambles. Sparks also has an incredible lunch and dinner menu (tempeh reubens, homemade soups, slow roasted tempeh, garlic mashed potatoes and greens, baked polenta, blue corn and yam enchiladas, and their new house salad with miso-cured tofu, tempeh bacon and baby greens. The breakfast items are between $8-10, I believe, and the dinner items are between $10-15. Although I haven't tried any, they also serve organic wines and beer. When you come up you can enjoy Armstrong Woods - home to gorgeous Redwoods that are over 1,000 years old - float the Russian River, watch an established harbor seal colony at Goat Rock Beach (only a 20 minute drive from Guerneville) or just hang out on Main street and enjoy the diverse Guerneville community basking in the hot sun (after years of living in the Sunset district it's amazing to witness full-blown SUMMER up here!) One final note, the chefs (and owners) are super friendly and EXTREMELY dedicated to the animals and environment. They give away vegetarian, vegan and animal rights pamphlets and they use biodegradable take-out utensils and plates. The head chef and owner, Alex Bury, has the warmest heart, and I truly believe one experiences her kindness and compassion when sampling her food. HOW CAN I FORGET - the desserts are TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! I thought no one could rival Black China bakery or Millennium. Five words: chocolate peanut butter mousse pie. They have other great desserts - pies, brownies, lemon poppyseed cakes - but it's the chocolate peanut butter mousse pie that will send you home crying, wondering why Sparks is open only on the weekends, and why you can't eat the mousse pie every day and three times a day. I write this at the risk of sounding like a shill, but my family eats at Sparks about once a week and I just LOVE the entire experience. I want to get the good word out. Happy Eating!
