Hi all,

Just thought I'd take a moment to give seven seconds of fame to a

long-standing San Francisco Chinese vegetarian restaurant, Shangri-La on

Irving near 19th.

We just had a delicious dinner (complimentary pickled salad appetizer, soup,

2 entrees, brown rice, tea) for $22 for 2 people -- and that included a 20%

tip and a small amount of leftovers. That is an incredibly reasonable

priced for dinner that included prompt, friendly service and a wide

selection of choices.

Here is their info from VegDining

http://www.vegdining.com/GetRest.cfm?rk=US-CA-SF-SHANG

Here's what we had:

won ton soup (4 good sized won tons included in each serving), the broth is

delicately spiced with ginger

entrees -- there is a secret dish (not on the menu!) called " Mixed Greens " .

It is a stir fry of bok choy, broccoli, and spinach in a light ginger

sauce -- simple yet delicious. (okay, technically it's not a secret now

that I told you!) The other entree that we enjoyed was (I believe) #40, dry

tofu with " pork " . It was sauteed strips of seasoned tofu and a mock pork

meat with bell peppers and celery.

Their menu is almost entirely vegan, although there are a couple of dishes

that have eggs (like one of the soups). Just ask, they are very friendly

folks and it's one of our favorite places to go. They do have a few round

tables that can seat about 10 people each, a wonderful place for a group

dinner (HINT, HINT!)

Cheers,

Tammy
