Guest guest
Uwajimaya in Bellevue will sell full cases of fresh durian for $5.50 per pound. For one fruit the price is $6.99/lb. so it's a pretty substantial savings and closer to the price I've seen in other cities. A case is 26-27 pounds (4 fruit). Last summer they were only available for a couple months, so they may be going away soon. Nora
Guest guest
Nora, I bought one at the Seattle Uwajimaya a year or so ago and it was pretty unripe. Are the ones available now there in Bellevue ripe enough that they're tolerable? Maybe I'm just spoiled by all the good ones I've had on various trips to Vancouver, BC. Thanks for the news! I might take advantage of it, depending on your further info.
Guest guest
Hi Eric, I got a couple unripe ones at the Bellevue store last year too. I was pretty anxious to eat them though, so it was probably my own fault! This year they have been much better. The ones I leave in the fridge until they split (anywhere from 1-5 days) seem to be the best. The last two have been stupendous, very sweet and creamy. I tried ripening a couple of them out of the fridge and they weren't as good. If it's more convenient you might call the Seattle store and see if they'll give you the same deal. Jeff is the guy I've been dealing with, he's the produce manager at the Bellevue store. Good luck!
