Guest guest
Wow Nick! 500 miles! Yeaaaa--- GO NIck! When you get your name in lights, your Seattle 'family' can say proudly, " I know him! " I commend you mightily! You remind me of the American athlete (his name slips my mind) who won 4 or 5 Tour de France competitions. I read his latest book (a quick read) which was a fascinating account of his life and of his love for the bike. You would probably eat it up--the way he describes every little exciting moment of each of his rides---when he broke down for lack of nutrients (his big mistake), and other physical issues...never giving up! Do you have any such goals, Nick? What is your next challenge? Linda West Seattle

Guest guest
Linda, Thanks for the kind words. I did the ride for the National Bicycle Greenway, and organization that is working to connect existing and planned bike trail segments into a continuous network of safe, enjoyable bike/hiking routes between major cities nationwide. You can read about the organization here: www.nationalbicyclegreenway.com They put pictures from our ride up on their website. You'll see that with what we had for scenery, riding 60-70 miles/day was nothing but a complete joy for the senses. http://www.nationalbicyclegreenway.com/gallery/Pittsburgh2004 My riding partner, Troy Bogdan, was an organic farmer from Pittsburgh and was fascinating company. He introduced me to a biodynamic farmer in Shepherdstown, MD - this is the next step beyond organic farming. Our trips reports are logged here: http://www.nationalbicyclegreenway.com/Events/Mayors_Ride/Reports/Archives/cat_d\ c_to_pittsburgh.php#000283 I also made front page news in the local paper on Monday: http://www.dominionpost.com/a/news/2004/07/19/ab/ Sorry if this seems off-topic, but I'm really excited about this organization and its potential to get more people out in nature under their own power and aware of the awesome strength within and the natural world around us. That can't help but make them more careful about their fuel and where it comes from. The book you referred to is " Every Second Counts " and I read it last Christmas when I received it as a gift. My favorite quote from the book is: " I'm just a regular guy, and this is what a regular guy can do!
