Good Morning,

I saw this article on a space news site that I read regularly.

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/plant_food_040629.html

I hope we are coming to a time when we take a global long-term view of our food

consumption so that we do it most efficiently. The most profound statement in

the article was:

" You get an idea of how reliant we are on [food] transportation systems, " Imhoff

said. " If these regions were constrained to what's available locally, they

wouldn't survive. "

Eat more locally grown fruit and vegetables!

I haven't read the article, but I think the fundamental message in that quote

isn't that we should eat 'locally', although it's nice to do that if what is

grown near you happens

to be human food, but to live where our food grows all year round. Here in

Seattle, it's only possible to live on what's grown around here for maybe 5

months out of the year,

unless you want to try and live on things like potatoes, carrots, kale, etc.,

which ultimately will cause disease (albeit a lot slower than 'regular' fare).

We're attempting to

compensate for our mistake of trying to live in places that can't support human

life by replacing nature's perfect food supply system with an inferior one which

creates lots of

problems of its own like expense, pollution, sub-standard food quality, limited

choice, corporate control, etc. To me the bottom line is that we need to be

living in our natural

home (the tropics).
