I am relatively new to raw (only 1 month now) and am thoroughly

enjoying it. I am not sure what percentage raw I am. I don't cook

anything but I have eaten some pre-made salad dressings. Although I

am changing my eating habits for better over all health, one of my

main concerns is weight loss. I am extremely obese and have over 100

pounds to lose. Will going raw heal my body in this respect as well?

Have any of you experienced weight loss eating this way? Any advice

is most appreciated.

Yes, you will very likely lose weight eating raw. I certainly did, quite

rapidly, and I wasn't even trying to lose weight. You should also of course

exercise every day, at least for a half hour. Check out Dr. Fuhrman's book Eat

to Live for a good healthy way to lose weoight and keep it off. It is basically

a vegan approach, and mostly raw, but it will still work if you include some

limited amounts of animal products. His website is www.drfuhrman.com

I began eating raw food in January, I started with an intestinal cleanse on

January 17th, ending Feburary 23rd. In that time I lost 35 pounds. Some would

say that timeline is totally unhealthy, but I have never been healthier. I

believe that eating raw food - going back to nature's way - is the only healthy

way to loose weight and keep it off. When you eat raw food, your body will

usually start shedding pounds automatically. It's finally getting the nutrients

it needs, and not so much waste (junk food).

In simple terms, I think this is how the body puts on weight: It trys to

eliminate what it cannot use - (the loads of toxic junk food calories) - however

most humans are constipated (defined as not having at least 2 BM's/day and

consuming 3 meals/day) and can't rid their body of the waste, so it gets

reprocessed and stored as fat (toxins). When you start eating raw, your body

gets the nutrients it needs (the receptors in your cells are probably having a

party!!) and it can start releasing some of the toxins. My health coach

explained it to me in terms of energy. Cooked food is a lower energy than Raw

food. When you start putting the higher energy in (raw food), your body has to

make room for it and starts eliminating the toxic stores of the lower energy,

cooked food located in your fat cells.

For most people, cleansing is the healthiest, easiest way to start on raw food.

I decided to cleanse because I was diagnosed with cancer back in September It's

shrinking, I am very happy to say!!. Combining cleansing with raw food was the

fastest and most comfortable way to health. (Comfortable in that the cleanse

kept the cleansing reactions minimal.) The intestinal cleanse also helped to

remove well over twenty-five feet of mucoid plaque. It was probably more, but I

didn't know what I was looking for at first. Mucoid plaque prevents your

digestive system from absorbing all the nutrients of your food or supplements.

I am a health coach and would love to talk to you about this more offline. I am

passionate about helping people achieve health! Some good books to read are:

Cleanse and Purify Thyself: Book 1 (and Book 2) by Dr. Richard Anderson

Raw Family by Victoria Boutenko

Diet for a New America by John Robbins

Spiritual Nutrition by Gabriel Cousins

I also came across this website yesterday - I haven't purused the whole thing,

but it may be of interest to you. http://www.fromsadtoraw.com/
