Good evening,

After seeing colonial house briefly this week I was thinking about how great it

would be to see a PBS reality show with modern people, using the best modern

knowledge try to build a colony in the wilderness with sustainable building,

farming and government. Such a place exists now, having been started 30 years

ago - see http://www.friendsofgaviotas.org/about.htm - but it is impossible to

visit due to war in the surrounding areas. A book has been written about it and

is available from amazon.com. I'm finding out that there are many people in the

WV countryside trying to attain sustainable lives. I'm not certain if this

includes food - I'll keep looking.

The Do Jump Theater troupe in Portland just recently did a play

based on the book Gaviotas, A Village to Reinvent the World and the

author of the book (Alan Weisman) was here for signings. All very

interesting and hopeful. There is an online transcript of an NPR All
