I am looking to buy one of these nifty blenders that seem to do it all to

raw food but I am very confused as to what to buy, Vitamix, Greenstar,

K-Tec. Can anyone offer some guidance???

Kellie,

My own experience is that the good old Osterizer works pretty well for a single

person. They are affordable and just about every place stocks replacement

parts. It also has the advantage that you can unscrew the bottom, making it

easier to get all the food out and to clean the pitcher. Everything goes in the

dishwasher for cleaning. We got ours as a wedding present 20 years ago, but for

the last 2.5 years I've been using it for raw food preparation. I've since

gotten a Champion Juicer and a food processor but the Osterizer gets the most

use and is holding up to it well. The only thing I've ever had to do is replace

the gasket twice. Once from old age (the rubber gets brittle after 20 years)

and the second from my incompetence - I assembled it incorrectly and it got

tangled in the blade.

Naturally, your mileage may vary.

I've found the K-Tec to be extremely useful and a real work horse.

Great for smoothies and dressings and raw soups. If you buy new,

there is an 8 (or was it 6?) year warrenty.

Those are my 2 cents.

Cheers,

Tina

The K-Tec is a commercial quality blender. You can find a comparison

of it with two other commercial blenders at

http://www.blenders.net/blender-comparison-chart.asp

It is the top of the line. The Vita-Mix is good also as you can

reverse the blades manually. A regular blender will have less

capacity and the blades can only turn in one direction.

Over the years I've heard/read many discussions of blenders, with

some favoring K-Tec and some favoring Vita-mix. One is stronger and

noisier (K-Tec). Many people have had good luck with Viamix and it's

less noisy.

What I'd like to know is, which blends better??? There are different

aspects to this. I have an older Vita-mix (3600). It is stronger than

my other regular blenders, but does not blend as efficiently. When I

blend up nuts in smoothies, etc. it leaves more grit in the bottom.

It seems to knock pieces around more than other blenders without

breaking them down. I'm sure the newer models are more efficient and

do appear to be so, based on watching other chefs with theirs. For

anyone who has experienced both K-Tec and Vita-mix, which blends more

efficiently?

Thanks,

Jeff
