Atkins ads are GREAT!

Several years ago I witnessed a huge clear cut operation within view of a major

interstate. The surrounding hills and majestic mountains were covered with trees

except for this huge section, wiped clean, like a shaved spot on a cat awaiting

surgery. I found it apalling and had thought to myself, " Why did they do that in

view of the freeway where everyone could see it? The least they could do was to

rape the forest somewhere where everyone didn't have to look at it. "

When I look back on it however, I'm glad they did it where they did. Perhaps

people *need* to bear witness to the atrocities that are being carried out.

Perhaps we need to know how bad it really is, and maybe a few of us will do

something about it because of that. It's not a perfect world, so why sweep the

stuff beneath the rug and pretend everything's sunshine and bunnies??

I regard the Atkins ads in a similar light; The ads aren't going to convince us

to run out and grab a Big Mac (hold the bun), so I find them humorous, sometimes

frustrating, but not offensive. I believe that it's up to Individuals to react

in a sensible manner when faced with challenges like this, and it's most

certainly NOT 's responsibility to censor things like that whether or not

they're able to. If you're offended, you're a wimp.

Who knows? Maybe the stark stupidity of the ads will inspire us to become more

empowered and we'll eventually witness their downfall.

Peace,

bb

[RawSeattle] Re: Atkins ads on email list

Actually, to me, those points are already givens. As I mentioned, the

ads are normally ratated, but recently they seem to be consistantly

atkins ads. I am sure that advertisers would appreciate their

advertising dollars going to better use. The advertisers, as well as

, will not know without feedback. Like I was saying it is an

opportunity for us. may learn something about one of their

groups (us) and about the effectiveness of their ads. We do not need

to be repulsed by ads to share our comments. I, personally, don't pay

much attention to ads, but am certainly willing to share some

comments with them, especially if it may result in us not getting

those ads. As a moderator, I would prefer more appropriate ads on our

list, so as to not offend any of our members. I realize they may just

pool all their available ads, which then pop up on all their email

groupd' emails. They do use computors, so should be able to better

assign their ads.

Good point!

Regarding censorship, evil, etc. It looks like my email may have been

taken in a far different light than it was intended. This email list

is a free service. We receive ads with the email as part of the deal.

Notiftying of the rediculous (IMO) nature of Atkins ads on our

list, offers feedback as to the effectiveness of their ads,

etc. It also allows them to make better use of their ads, and their

advertisers dollors. Offering feedback is not censorship. It may end

with a similar result, in that the ads could possibly (outside

chance) be removed from this list, but feel free to turn the page

(join any number of other lists) and there are more Atkins ads, all

over the place. I never said they should be eliminated all-together.

I belong to enough email lists to know I'll be seeing them as long as

Atkins decides to advertise. On other lists the ads are just ads,

less inappropriate than a vegan list. At least when we choose to

communicate with we are exercising our freedom of speech. That

is something I encourage, rather than sensor!

My appologies to anyone who was offended by my interest in

encouraging communication with . No offense was intended.

Have a nice day!

Jeff

PS: BTW, having a nice day is not required. It is purely an option. I

wish the best for everyone.
