Guest guest
Amy and Ron, Consider this point. Modern synthetic and processed foods have put many people in a situation where they won't react rationally when they realize their health situation and can take corrective action. No amount of kind or harsh words will change this. It is the classic case like a drug addict or alcoholic that the person who needs help most rejects it most violently. This will only change when one of three things happen... They get really bad and die They get really bad and realize they will die unless they change things They change gradually and become better able to make better decisions. We can't force people to treat themselves better, but we can guide them to it by living an example that inspires them to. Maybe Ron owes the woman an apology, but maybe he's also been the spark she needs to start changing. Ron would be the best one to know. Perhaps we should add another board ettiquette rule that this board is not for expressing hatred & vitriole toward other groups. Our diet of the thoughts we think is every bit as important as our diet of food. IMO, anyone who delights in the suffering of others is in need of a serious mental diet overhaul. >Anyway, she tried it and said that she would rather eat cardboard than raw fruits and veggies and she would rather die from diabetes and cardiovascular disease than eat raw fruits and veggies. At that point I said, " Well! You probably will, in that case " ! If you want to help someone lose weight, bashing them is not the way to go. I think it's appallingly rude that you said that to her. I think you owe her an apology. ~Amy
Guest guest
Nick: Thank you very much for your feedback. I do believe in " Tough Love. " If someone is killing themselves, I have a moral obligation to tell them they are killing themselves and offer them a way out. If they still want to kill themselves I may as well let them die... there's certainly nothing else I can do! I don't think that being polite to mentally-ill people is the first priority. I think that recognizing Reality and Truth is the first priority in my recovery--and I am not obligated to be codependent with mentally, physically and spiritually sick people in order to avoid hurting their feelings. My first responsibility is to my own recovery: I need to keep my own thinking straight! I don't need to compromise with mentally-ill people in order to keep from hurting their feelings. Perhaps hurting their feelings is my way of putting distance between me and them. If they can't accept the truth then I want lots of distance between me and them.
