Guest guest
You can get them from Chinese grocery stores, like Viet-Wah, Hau Hau (on 12th Ave.) in Chinatown, 99 Ranch in the Great Wall Mall in Renton. Central Market has them too but twice as expensive as in hinese stores. You can only get fresh ones in summer. They are around five dollars a pound. A whole durian would cost about 30 dollars. Guest guest
Good morning, I would recommend strongly against buying durians at Great Wall in Renton. The last one I had there gave me intense (although beautifully cinematic) chemical nightmares. After reading the article yesterday on chemical use in Asian durian-producing countries I would look for durians that give some assurance of chemical-free production if you can. My new source for durians here in the East is a local shop owner who drives to NYC to get everything. I'll ask him if he knows of any certified organic or IPM (integrated pest mgmt) growers. Guest guest
two more good places in chinatown are " chinatown market " and and across the street, 1 or 2 blocks east is another store. That makes 4 stores in total in chinatown, all within a few blocks of eachother. 3 stores on jackson street and 1 on 12th. The frozen ones cost around 80 cents and pound for a total of around 7 dollars. On the eastside, Pal Do has comparable prices....it's on 156th and lake hills way.
