It is incredibly easy (after the first few weeks of learning how!) to breastfeed long- term. And healthy (duh). My son came down with severe athsma two weeks after he weaned. Seems my antibodies were protecting him all that time. And his lungs were big enough to handle it at 3. And there is an easy way to handle biting (which hurts!!). If they bite, you pinch their nose and cut off their air until they stop. Simple. It takes about three times. And then they don't bite any more. Easy! I breastfed the son that we adopted for five 1/2 months (which is the current La Leche League record for breastfeeding adopted kids in our area! YAY!). I wish it could have been longer, but my body just gave out. And hey, it's longer than for some folks who birth them! And, in case the inevitable questions come up, yes, it's perfectly easy to breastfeed a kid you didn't birth. You just pump. Period. Two days after I started pumping my breasts in preparation for the birth of our second son, I had colostrum. Our bodies are miracles. And now we return to our regularly scheduled rawness (hey, what's more raw than breastfeding, right?) -- Corrie www.CorriesLeapofFaith.siteblast.com " In war we're tough and able Quite indefatigable Between our quests We sequin vests And impersonate Clark Gable It's a busy life in Camelot - I have to push the pram a lot.
