Guest guest
[NOTE: I am forwarding this information. Please do not respond to me. Thanks! Annette] Dear Raw Fooder, NOTICE: EARLY REGISTRATION DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO JUNE 1 Sorry for the delay in answering your request for information on this year's International Raw Foods Festival ...we are a totally volunteer group & have had so many more requests this year! (or if you already have gotten an answer & this is a repeat, we apologize...want to be sure no one falls through the cracks & misses the Festival!) The following information on the 2003 Festival should answer all the questions you have about this year's event. An application form is also at the end of the information so that you can register right away. This year's event is gathering even more interest than usual, so if you want on site bunkhouse, RV, camping or vender space, please reserve your preference right away. You can pay for all reservations in 3 installments by sending a $50 deposit & letting us know that the balance will be paid by the Festival. Remember, children 14 & younger free. If you have already called in/emailed about campsite or bunkhouse reservations...you have one reserved, but will need to mail a deposit/payment to continue to hold it if you have not already done so. If you want to learn more about raw foods & are " new " or " old " to this lifestyle, the 2003 Festival has lots of information for everyone! There will be more than 40 speakers this year & numerous food preparation demonstrations! If you are interested in where the Raw Movement is going, that is a big part of this year's event also. There are two websites for information about the Festival: www.internationalrawfoods.org is the International Raw Foods Association website & contains basic information on the Festival. The Festival official Website: www.rawfoods.com/festival is not up yet because we were waiting on the Presenter schedule & pictures...it should be on line by June 1 & has comprehensive pictures of the Festival site as well. We are also putting together lists of people who would like to travel from their area as a group with other raw foodists. If you are interested, let us know. Vender, Entertainment, volunteer-angel & work-trade information will be sent out to those of you requesting this in a separate email. Look forward to seeing you at the Festival! Thanks for your patience with getting back to you....any one want to volunteer??? Blessings, Linda Checkal-Fromm, Festival Coordinator & Assoc. The 2001 Festival was focused on showing the depth & variety of teachers, visions, disciplines, modalities & ideas currently in our Movement & in other compatible causes. Last year's 2002 Festival was focused on the people out there living the raw foods lifestyle & identifying their diversity, their needs, their commonalties & their worldwide issues, as well as their possible joint actions. THIS YEAR ... 2003 ... the Worldwide Festival will be building our links to one another & expanding on the work begun at the 2002 Festival, such as the interactive discussion that was begun on " ethics " for the Movement. The first two years saw event attendance at about 500 yearly while last year that doubled with well over 1,000 people attending the 2002 event ... the goal is for 3,000 people in 2003. Come & be a part of making this happen!! Can you imagine being a part of a RAW FOODS GATHERING THAT LARGE ????!!!! Creating Global Unity is the name for this year's International Festival We are looking for people to be BRAVE RAW WORLD AMBASSADORS from every area in the United States & every country worldwide to help get the word out ... Are you one of them? This year's event will be held August 21 through 26 near Portland, Oregon. The later date this year will give the International Festival sunnier weather & more ripe, fresh, local grown, organic produce! We're excited about all of this & know that you will be too. Whether you are just exploring what raw foods are, beginning to move into a living foods lifestyle, or have " been there/done that " for a long time we know that this year's Festival will make your " mouth water. " The worldwide Festival this year will feature five concurrent modules using speakers, experiential workshops, panels & food demos as well as numerous opportunities to come together as a Movement and further define ourselves, our goals & our connections. One module will focus on the Raw Lifestyle from pregnancy through Senior-hood & a second one on the nuts & bolts of living a raw foods lifestyle: these will spotlight information for those beginning their raw foods lifestyle journey, those who have been on the path for awhile & want to expand their knowledge & those who are long time raw foodists who want " something new " to learn to further enhance their experiences, as well as special issues such as the raw lifestyle during pregnancy, for babies, youth, teens, women, special health issues, seniors & more. There will even be a special introduction mini-class & tour for people who do not know what our lifestyle is all about & would like to have an overview before committing to the cost of attending the Festival presentations. Another module will focus on our food itself: this will include demos, organic & GMO issues and all that surrounds the process of obtaining & preparing the foods we eat. The Fourth module will focus on the Raw Foods Movement: Presentations of differing raw life styles, intentional communities and raw foods happenings worldwide will be a part of this visionary gathering. Helping to make the worldwide Raw Foods Movement itself more visible will be in the spotlight for this year's event. Raw Issues---World Issues-Creating Global Unity ... all will be a part of the 2003 International Festival! A new module this year will be one created especially for the Youth in our Raw Food Community ... this will provide a fun learning experience & community for ages 7 to 18. The 2003 Festival begins this year with another chance to experience the Raw Haute Cuisine of Gourmet Chef Chad Sarno. Tickets for this formal (this means dress up & " put on the Ritz " ) Thursday, August 21, evening event are $65 per person & include the meal & entertainment. Seating is limited to the first 150 to register ... many of the Festival speakers will be hosting tables! FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions: 1. Can I pay for my admission with a credit card? Yes, Visa or Master Cards & Discovery are accepted. You may pay by email, through www.PayPal.com, or the quickest: by phone: (503-246- 1684), or by regular mail to 8700 SW Borders, Portland, Oregon 97223. Please include the name the card is listed in, the amount of what you want put on the card (i.e. number of days x number of people for accommodations & tickets), list the credit card number & expiration date also. Be sure & give us your contact information such as address, phone number & email address. 2. Can I just wait & get my admission ticket at the gate? Tickets will be sold at the gate each day, as long as we have enough room on the grounds to accommodate walk-in attendees. HOWEVER, if the grounds are becoming over full, we will suspend walk-in ticket sales and only honor those tickets sold in advance. 3. How will I know which day to buy my tickets for? Single day tickets are good for any of the days ... buy the quantity that you want to come to & then choose which days to attend later. 4. Are there accommodations available on the grounds? As of 5/12 there are still some bunkhouse spaces available as well as tent & RV spaces. If you are staying for 4 nights & will be housed in the bunkhouses, you may be moved once to accommodate the fact that fewer people are staying Friday & Monday nights. RV & tent spaces can hold up to 4 adults without any extra charges. You may call & reserve your space, but mailed in payments must reach us within a week afterwards to keep the spot. If you want to be put on a waiting list for cancellations when bunkhouse spots are filled, you may do that also & then convert from a tent or RV reserved space. The Festival phone number is 503-246-1684 or you may also send an email to RawFestival. 5. Is food included in our admission price or is there food to purchase on the grounds: The 2003 International Festival features a Raw Vegetarian/Vegan Food Court, a Farmers Market & a Durian/Young Coconut/Exotic Fruit Garden ... with food available for purchase. (Food is separate from the admission.) Prices range from less than $1 in the Farmers Market to a maximum of about $8 for a full meal, complete with dessert, in the Food Court. Various product venders also will have food samples & some of the food demos will be interactive as well. Foods will be plainly marked whenever they contain an item that might need dietary discretion (honey, for example.) All foods served on the grounds will be vegetarian or Vegan and raw. Bottled/filtered water & fruit & veggie juices will also be available to purchase. 6. Do I have to be a Raw Foodist already to attend this event? This Festival is put on, in part, to introduce people to the concept of Raw Foods in a fun, non-judgmental, non-threatening, educational manner. Our Assoc. definition of a RAW FOODIST " IS ANYONE WHO EATS 50% OR MORE OF THEIR DIET AS RAW FOODS " . This Festival is based on the premise that people need to be honored from where they are currently & be given the opportunity to receive information on all the different views of what a Raw Food Life Style can be like… so that they can make individual choices that best reflect their needs & lifestyles ... there are many raw food paths to choose from! 7. Is there a website where I can find out more information? The official 2003 Festival Website is up as of June 1 & more items are being added to it weekly.
