Guest guest
Now that I know the dangers and sins of using refined sugars for human beings, I can't bring myself to make sugar syrup to put in my feeder for the hummingbirds. I've always enjoyed watching and listening to these amazing birds. There aren't enough flowers in my yard for them. Do you know of something I can make for their feeder that would be " healthy " ? Thanks! Annette
Guest guest
Hi Annette, You can buy Hummingbird nectar at pet shops. I really don't know how healthy it is for them but I was told it is better for them than boiling sugar and water and adding red food coloring. The name of the nectar I have is called "The Original Perky-Pet Brand Instant Nectar" and it says: "a high-energy sugar compound developed scientifically to attract hummingbirds of all varieties and contains no artificial sweeteners. The bright red tone is achieved through artificial coloring which is non-toxic and harmless to hummingbirds." But......who knows.....we are told milk and meat are good for us so they probably are selling us garbage for the little critters too. Hope this helped.
