Guest guest
" It's so hard having to cook food for my family, accompany them to restaurants, etc.. " Lisa .. . I am cheering you on. You have taken on the daunting task of being different from all that is around you. YOU CAN DO IT!!! I am here as your proof of its possibility and you are welcome to call me at anytime. My email is sturtevants my home number is 425-228-5168, I am usually home after 3 or 4. I have 4 older children still at home so you know the schedule can be hectic (my youngest is 15 and the oldest is 22). You are fortunate that your children are young. They will be more open to change than mine were. They were teenagers and heavily into fast food. Teenagers do not like changing from the established norm, but they are very aware of my " difference " and have come to respect it and some of them are very impressed by it. I have been changing my diet for several years so I had been preparing two meals for quite some time and I would sneak in a few vegetarian meals for the whole family weekly. I have been raw for 21/2 years. I keep lots of fresh vegetables and fruit available for all. I still prepare cooked food for my family. I prepare the family food first and as I do so I remind myself to keep that loving state of mind as I prepare it. I believe how you " feel " as you are doing anything goes into that creation. At first this may be hard to do because you may be constantly thinking that something you are preparing is " unhealthy " or " wrong " . This is not true! While preparing their food remind yourself that this is a lifestyle change that you have chosen while at the same time you are honoring the lifestyle choices of your family who love very much. This is a very important point to remember to help you with the " differences " that you perceive. Practically speaking, when we would choose to go to restaurants, I refused to feel guilty when I would either bring my own food or supplemental food to go with the " iceberg lettuce salad " at the restaurant. Few places had anything decent and definitely not organic. One of the most convenient places is Zoopa's Restaurant, which has a wonderful non-organic salad bar and most of the family likes the food choices there. I have often eaten before we go to a restaurant and I would just sit and enjoy the conversation and the wonderful feeling of just being all together. I have gone to restaurants on my fast days and just not eaten or drunk anything while there. Those around me were more uncomfortable with this choice than I was, especially the waiter or waitress. It has been an interesting journey but I am secure with my own choice of lifestyle and if those around me are uncomfortable it is their choice to be so. I think that those of us who are " different " are helping to bring about awareness of other possibilities. I will always be changing for change is the one constant of the universe. I encourage you to enjoy all that life has to offer you and know that all choices are valid even if you do not agree with them. Guest guest
Very inspiring Ramona.... thank you so much for your input. It would be wonderful if you were able to attend a potluck and share your insights with several others who share your path. Perhaps we have a raw spouse support group emerging? peace and lovingly prepared food--- Linda
Guest guest
Linda Thank you for your kind comments. I miss seeing the other raw fooders on a regular basis. This is the busy season for my work and will be out of town on the week ends for this month but I try to see if I can attend the April pot luck. I usually have to arrive late.
