Eric,

Just for information, I get a free magazine at my local health food store (Nature's Market in Kent) that has an article this month on the costs of purchasing healthy foods. The magazine is "Better Nutrition" and the article is on page 22 entitled "Healthy Foods Cost Less, offer More". It is based on an article in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association Sept, 2002.

The article says that healthy foods are more expensive initially until families learn what they need and how to buy it most affordably. Your offer is very generous, and will help anyone get over the initial expense. You might also ask that anyone who takes you up on it, offer to do the same for someone else in the future.

The magazine has many other good short articles, plus feature articles on health effects of wines and beer and an article on SAD. One particularly interesting article gives the results of a study about "Mood Food" saying how foods affect our mental state. They list the ones that are mood "stressors" vs. "supporters". These are

Stressors: Dairy products, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, and saturated fat.

Supporters: Water, vegetables, fruits, protein, oil-rich fish, nuts and seeds, fiber and organic foods.

[RawSeattle] Serious offer of an organic food rebate

This offer applies to all of you that this message isgoing to, newbies [the raw raw foodists, you could say;-)] and oldies alike. I will put my money where mymouth, beliefs, and values are on the importance ofconsuming organically. We all know that organic ismore nutritious for us, besides being moreecologically sound.I am making an absolutely serious offer to anyone whofeels they "don't have the money" to buy organic whenavailable, versus conventional. My offer is that Iwill give you a rebate on purchasing the availableorganic "equivalent" food. Here's an example to illustrate how the offer works:Say you're going to buy avocados. You know organicavocados are for sale (whether "on sale" or not). Youcompare prices on organic versus conventional, conclude you "can't afford" the organic option, anddecide to buy conventional avocados instead.Well, this offer is designed to prevent you from thislast decision. If you buy the available organicoption instead of the conventional, when you trulybelieve you "can't afford" to buy the organic, I willrefund you the difference in price. Just bring yourreceipt to a potluck, tell me what the price was onthe conventional alternative, and I'll pay you back sothat in effect you only paid the price forconventional. In essence, you'll "get organic for theprice of conventional." We'll use the honor system onwhat that price was for the conventional, and on yourunaffordability belief. This offer has multiple purposes. If you take me upon it, it will:1. improve your health because organic is morenutritious, generally speaking.2. promote more ecological organic farming methods.3. increase the demand for organic options at foodstores.4. assist you to live by your values/standards.5. prove to you that buying conventional when theorganic alternative is available is completelyunreasonable.6. reinforce intelligent decision making, if in aspell of irrationality you decide not to exercise thisoffer but buy conventional, only to recover later fromyour spell and realize it would have been just as easyto get organic instead.7. increase your self-esteem to have it demonstratedthat you're cared about.8. give to me as well, by allowing me to serve mycommunity.9. contribute to prosperity consciousness--A. If you're honest with yourself, you will probablyrealize that you really CAN afford it.B. Honoring this offer will prove to me the abundancein my life.I'll bring a wad o' cash to every potluck I attend,or, I might be more comfortable using my checkbooksometimes. Meeting at potlucks is a convenient methodfor me if you exercise this contract. If that's notthe most convenient place and time for _you_, call meat 206-706-1387 or e-mail me and we can work out otherarrangements.Bring your receipts! BYE BYE EXCUSES! BYE BYE! :-) All you have to do is BUY organic! :-) Say, "BYE!"(to excuses), then BUY (the organic choice)--BYE/BUY. :-)
