Guest guest
Cornelia, I asked the same question on this list at Thanksgiving and my neighbor (also raw) sent me this. She is out of town at the moment so I know she won't mind me passing it on for her. Nick Hein Renton, WA Being with family during the holidays can be challenging. It often brings back many joyful memories associated with particular foods and treats. What I find helpful is that I focus on the social aspects, not the food aspects of being together. I let my eyes "feast" on the joy in the faces of those around me. I let my Heart radiate love and appreciation for the opportunity to be together. If my mind is occupied with these types of thoughts then there is no desire to eat other foods. Although having a few raw treats for myself doesn't hurt either. Nuts, medjul dates, raisins or dried bananas are a few of my favorites to bring along if the urge hits. I also read that some people have trouble with smells causing cravings. I love the smell of fresh breads and pies. I do not have cravings but according the author we love the smell of flowers but are not tempted to eat them. If we shift our thoughts about smells we can change the conditioning we previously had so that we can enjoy the fragrances around us without the desire to partake. I hope these tips help. - Cornelia Moore RawSeattle Saturday, December 21, 2002 9:51 PM Re: [RawSeattle] Digest Number 486 Excellent new friends,Can anybody give some holiday tips for staying on a raw diet? Guest guest
Corrie, I'd suggest you do your best to make yourself some wonderful raw foods. As aromatic as the cooked foods may be, I suggest you'll have the most nourishing foods at the dinner table! Keep that in mind when you see the other " foods " on the table. If it helps, consider eating some raw foods or juices before your dinner (1/2 hour or so) to help avoid hunger-driven cravings. Remember, once the foods go past your mouth, your body has to deal with them, so do your body a favor and stick to the raw ones! I personally am OK with my basic foods, like salads, at holiday meals. Perhaps other Seattle Raw Foodists have some favorite " holiday " recipes. (Consider the lasagna recipe I just sent) I hope these also help!
