Guest guest
Thanks so much, all you kind raw folk who welcomed me! I really appreciate it. Especially Nora, who brought up the 'controversy' about soaking nuts versus eating them dry. One of you suggested that I bring my (potentially) annoying newbie questions to the list, in case anyone might share my question. So, about the nuts, um, soak? And if so, how long? An then, as kind Nora said, do I refrigerate them? Some of the books say that if you don't soak them, you can get sick from not getting all the enzymes. Any opinions, please? And, second question: How do you handle it when you are craving something not good for you like chocolate or chicken? Guest guest
I'll take this question... You can do amazing things with " raw " carob powder and dates. The " raw " carob has its own controversy. Some say the process to make carob into powder heats it making it non-raw. I have not had a problem using it. I don't recommend it as an everyday food, but it certainly can help curb cravings. I used to use it more frequently adding it to smoothies. You can soak some sesame seeds or almonds (1/4 - 1/2 cup) over night, rinse and drain them, then blend them with young coconut water (adding the " meat " is an option) and dates. When you want carob flavor just add raw carob powder to taste. Locally I have found the raw carob powder at Manna Mills (north of Shoreline - check the phone book) and at Marlene's Market (Federal Way and Tacoma).
