hi folks...

several people have said they'd like to know more about harvesting seaweed so i'm offering a free seaweed workshop on july 14 at larrabee state park which is located just 6 miles south of b'ham on chuckanut drive. http://www.parks.wa.gov/parkpage.asp?selectedpark=Larrabee & pageno=1

july 14 is the day after the b'ham potluck so potluck campers can caravan from my place. others can meet us at the park. the low tide (-1.3) is at 2:45pm so let's meet at the park amphitheater at 1:45 sharp (the tides don't wait for late-comers) and head on down to the beach. since were gonna be in a state park, we won't be able to pick any seaweed other then a few taster samples and i'll bring dried samples for comparison. and becuz a *real* low tide is -2.9 and seaweed is seasonal just like terrestrial plants, not all species will be available to us but this class will give you a good start at gathering seaweed for yourself.

please let me know if your interested and won't be at the potluck so we can talk more about the day.

norm :))~~~~ raw food... simply delicious ~~~

An Introduction to Wildcrafting Seaweed

this is a 'hands on' workshop to introduce you to abundance of edible seaweeds we have right here in washington. topics covered will include; sustainable harvesting, what's edible, fresh eating, drying, storage and the tide cycles. wear appropriate clothing for washington beach weather. you won't have to get into the water so regular beach combing footwear will be fine.
