1) Recent Happenings at Fresh Up North

a) Report on Manchester Live by Jenny Graham

" Manchester Live " - Wow! What an experience! Two interactive weekends packed

with action and information, 17th-19th May and 24th to 26th May, beginning

at 5pm-9.30pm on Friday, 8am-8pm on Saturday and 8am - 4pm on Sunday.

Finishing the second weekend with an awesome F.U.N meeting attended by guest

speaker Yogesh who talked about his wheatgrass business experience

(www.feelthedifference.co.uk) , followed by our sexy raw foods buffet! Did I

say action packed?

Not only was it a chance to extend my skills in the preparation of gourmet

living foods recipes, but also a chance to share in conscious eating and

connection with the other beautiful people who attended the course. All at

different levels of awakening; physically, mentally, emotionally and

spiritually.

The energy was amazing! Phil's energy was inspiring! We shared so many

wonderful experiences; kaliray tri yoga, meditation, Shabbat, fresh living

foods prepared and blessed with love and eaten in silent meditation, lively

interactive discussions and live food preparation demos and practice. We

thought carefully about why we were there and expanded our consciousness

together. Only leaving after planning how to move forward and resolving what

we each needed to do next in order to put our learning into practice.

" Professor " Philip Madeley had worked diligently at producing a

comprehensive booklet covering all the information shared in the w/end

courses, which will serve all of us who helped and attended as a future

reminder of our experiences.

I met some wonderful people over the two weekends and send my love to you

all - Angela, Margaret, Jo, Joseph, Zora, Melody, Mark, Lisa, Julie and

Angela. Thanks to all of you for creating together, a beautiful raising of

consciousness to which everyone contributed. [Editor: You can read the

comments of all these people at www.sattvic-life.com]. My respect goes out

to all of you who participated, especially those who are not raw foodists,

since you remained true to the total experience and stayed raw vegan for the

whole weekend, even in the early hours, I have been told, when temptation

was great.

The Friday evening began with a welcoming group exchange of our reasons for

being there followed by some yoga stretches, dinner and an ancient Essene

Shabbat ceremony. The dinner consisted of wild rice salad, green leaves,

sprouts, crackers assorted crudities et al. The food was blessed each time

with the joining of hands and eaten in silent, conscious appreciation. All

the vibrant colours, aromas and varying textures and tastes were noticed in

that moment. After which we were guided through the Shabbat ceremony which

incorporates all the elements of creation symbolised by " lighting of the

candles " , fresh grape juice, washing and drying each other hands and giving

and receiving of raw halvah (plaited bread) which was truly delicious. We

shared some ancient chanting and even some dancing! Philip led with his

resonant voice and we accompanied each other very musically, with our

tambourines, bells, and shakers - even a banana shaker! All very tuneful as

you must believe; the instruments by kind permission of my class of 6 year

olds, they would have been proud of our efforts. We then exchanged stories

and experiences that we thought might offer some meaning or lessons to us

all.

We started every day with meditation and yoga stretches and all our studies

were interspersed with recreational stretches and fresh air, a chance to

rebound and even juggling lessons, which were not on the original schedule.

All this amongst the stimulating environment of the green raised beds of the

Madeley's organic garden. We engaged in conscious walking in the local

woodland, savouring the cleansing rain of Prestwich one weekend, and the

warming sun the following one. We identified wild garlic, learnt the art of

nettle eating, and were nourished by ever abundant dandelion (true

superfood!!)

And what did we learn? We learnt how to set up a live food kitchen. Why we

might want to eat raw vegan food: enzymes, leucocytosis, comparative

anatomy, and the chemicals created through cooking. Then how to balance our

diets utilising the rainbow diet green cuisine. What to expect as our bodies

reconstruct themselves through detoxification, with new vibrant healthy

cells. We exchanged understanding of water and it's important energy, and

their were some fascinating facts shared on this topic. Mental and emotional

poise was covered extensively, incorporating the work of Victoria Butenko

and her amazing book " 12 steps to raw foods " . We even had chance to play the

" addiction game " see May Newsletter on www.freshupnorth.com. It is very

powerful when put into practice. I have had amazing results with this game!

Being prepared when invited out to a meal by friends, when going to stay

with someone or when going on holiday is extremely important. Being

confident and clear about what you eat, it was agreed, is crucial, without

appearing antisocial. We all related our own experiences and offered ideas

to assist us in these situations.

Are you having the best day ever? Well we certainly opened our minds up to

ensuring we incorporate techniques and beliefs into our lives, which support

our emotional poise and enhance our lives and those of our loved ones.

" Start where you are at. Real change takes effort and for every disciplined

effort there are multiple rewards. One step at a time! " The ideas were

endless and fun!

Now we all have a more focussed idea of making it work for us, and the

transition steps to take. Phil, in his magnificence! Incorporated a record

in his booklet for us to keep of the changes we notice on our way to perfect

health. Wow! What a trainer! [Ed Jenny is so much fun]

We had fun practising the techniques of setting up the indoor garden for

sprouting, essential sprout care and guidelines. We heard about Philip's

experience at the Tree of Life Café and practised some enticing recipes from

there. We discovered how balancing of the senses is so important in the

creation of gourmet live foods and received handouts produced by Chad Sarno

(www.rawchef.org ) called The Root of all Dishes, Cultural Spice Chart and

Balancing. Philip also included many resources to support us in our quest

for perfect health. [Editor see resources at: www.freshupnorth.com]

The high standard of gourmet cuisine remained constantly delicious and

attractive throughout Saturday and Sunday. Both days began with fresh juice

consisting of Celery and Apple. Incorporating elevenses of nut milk

sweetened with a little fruit and natures living superfood. Leading up to a

scrumptious lunch of raw lasagne (Saturday) and raw sushi (Sunday), my

favourites! For Saturday night we had creamy carrot avocado soup. All the

meals had a variety of fresh sprouts, greens, veggies, sea veggies, avocado

and crackers.

When I last saw Philip Madeley and gave him a reference to work in America

two years ago. I said goodbye to a young man full of enthusiasm and a

burning desire to change the world, on the promise that he returned to us to

share his experiences. The young man who has returned, albeit for a short

time, has certainly excelled in those requirements. Philip, I just wish to

thank you on behalf of myself and all the other participants in your courses

for your vibrancy and enthusiasm in promoting this lifestyle towards health,

wellbeing and happiness for anyone, who dares to adopt it. And for your

monumental efforts in presenting such comprehensive courses. Thank you with

Love Jenny

P.S. Also many thanks and love to the people behind the scenes i.e. Patricia

and Alan (who was barred to his allotment on more than one occasion, just

kidding!) They gave up their whole house and kitchen for the whole weekend

selflessly in order to give their total support.

[Editor PS. Thank you Jenny for all your hard work, you are an inspiration!

Thank you for being a best friend]

b) Reasons to be raw

Below you will find a few reasons why raw vegan foods make so much sense:

1) We are the only animal on the planet that tampers with it's foods and

with the exception of domesticated animals and animals influenced by human

pollution, we are the only ones that get degenerative diseases

2) We are vegan by design from the claw less hands perfect for picking plant

foods, our low stomach acidity to our gentle psychology. Few people have the

psychological desire to hunt down and kill their own food. We are closely

related to gorillas which are 99% vegan.

3) Will it sprout? If you take a cooked sunflower seed and a raw one, only

the raw one will sprout. Plant the cooked one in the ground and it will

decay, the raw one will grow into a beautiful sunflower.

4) Living foods are full of life force, which can be absorbed by our bodies.

This diminishes as we process/ cook food, which can clearly be seen in

kirlian photography. (see Eating for Beauty, David Wolfe or

www.kirlian.com )

5) Cooked foods are devoid of living water, which is essential to efficient

functioning of the cellular system and the brain. Living water has a unique

energy and under high-powered microscope crystalline forms can be seen,

rather like a snowflake. The energetic form is changed when foods are cooked

and water is lost.

6) Heating food over 115oF (approx. 45oC) destroys enzymes which help the

body (along with internal digestive enzymes) to break down the food. The

food breaks down partially in the upper part of the stomach with it's own

enzymes. The rest is broken down by the bodies digestive enzymes, secreted

from the pancreas.

7) Pottenger's Cats Study - A nutrition study was carried out between the

years of 1932 and 1942 on cats. One group was fed predominantly raw foods

while the other cooked. The cats eating the cooked/processed foods showed

signs of: deficiency decreased reproductive capacity, skeletal deformities

and organ malfunctions.

8) Eating cooked and processed foods causes the body to have a reaction know

as Digestive Leucocytosis. This is the bodies immune system reacting as if a

poison were entering the body. This does not happen with raw Food!

9) Rouleau Formation - Victoria Boutenko (Author of 12 Steps to Raw Food)

shows this excellent 2-minute video at her presentations, which shows

changes in the blood after eating cooked foods. She carried out an

experiment in which she had two people eat only raw for three months, after

which she introduced 1 piece of cooked food. Upon looking at a live blood

analysis the result was outstanding, the blood immediately formed Rouleau,

which is an aggregation of red blood cells, thus reducing oxygen carrying

capacity. The dark field microscope pictures at

http://www.freshupnorth.com/blood.html give us an idea what that looks

like. Tt is interesting to note that in live blood work it is taught NOT to

take live blood samples until 4 hours after a meal, and fasting overnight is

often recommended.

10) Protein Coagulation - Whenever we heat proteins we begin to denature

the normal structure making it very difficult for the body to obtain the

essential amino acids. E.g. Think of an egg white, the whitening process as

it cooks is protein coagulation. (see

http://www.living-foods.com/articles/rawfreshproduce.html ). A well-balanced

raw food diet provides excellent quality protein.

11) Nutrient Loss - Vitamins and Minerals are lost through the cooking

process, be it in the water, the steam or derangement and chemical changes.

I would imagine there is more nutrition on a kitchen ceiling, in some

cases!:)

12) Chemical Creation - By cooking a simple potato over 400 chemicals are

created that are potentially dangerous, unknown and unusable by the human

body! Think of school experiments with a Bunsen burner. See

http://www.living-foods.com/articles/rawfreshproduce.html for a very

informative scientific article on the changes that occur after cooking.

13) Trans Fatty Acids are formed when we heat fats and oils, even quickly at

low temperatures. These are highly destructive to the human body creating

free radical damage in the cellular structure. Free radicals are also formed

by acidic food, thoughts, lifestyle and environment.

14) Absorption Rates - According to simple (non-scientific) experiments

carried out by Victoria Butenko the absorption rates from 1% raw to 99% raw

do not vary substantially remaining below 5%. When 100% raw foods are eaten

it can go up to 40%, and if you are living in a pristine environment up to

90%. The reason for such a drastic change is " mucus " " mucoid plaque " that

lines the digestive tract, stomach. This explains why some one new to

alcohol can only drink a small amount but an alcoholic can drink 10-20

pints. The alcohol is not absorbed as quickly.

15) Vital Adaptation - Many people will state that while it may be true that

we are fruigivore by design we have now adapted to eating an omnivorous

diet. This is true and we have adapted to the foods of the current

generation. Does that mean it is good? The body has created protection

(survival) mechanisms or ways of dealing with the massive overload of

toxins. The body is amazing, it will be interesting to see this generation

of people in twenty year, if they continue to eat this way. Mechanisms for

survival include mucoid plaque, buffering acidity with minerals, chronic

dehydration, hardening of the arteries, enlarged internal organs to name a

few examples.

16) Heat Destroys. - Whenever you add heat to anything it becomes less than

whole and certainly never more.

17) Spiritual Energy - By removing all internal obstructions we clear the

inner pathways of energy so we can connect to the truth within

This is not to mention the environmental destruction and animal suffering

caused by cooking food, which are both a whole subject in themselves, just

think about it!

If you have any more reasons or see any mistakes, please let me know and I

will add them to my upcoming website www.whyraw.com email me at

whyraw

c) The California Immigration Service has approved my visa, now I have to

clear with the London US Embassy. I return to the Tree of Life Rejuvenation

Centre on July 10th 2002. I look forward to a hot tub under the stars again,

with my Superstar friend Jeff, TOL business manager.

d) Young Coconuts (known in store as drinking coconuts) at Sanisbury's

supermarket. If your local store does not have them, they can order them for

you. They are £1.99 each, the more we demand them the lower the prices will

be and the better the distribution of these beauties.

e) Great report on UK Television, they introduced healthy eating (food

without additives) to children, they were surprised that the children

actually performed better in school! Great result, and after only 7 days!

Things are changing, the world is waking up. maybe!

Reports Coming Up

a) Fresh Party down South with David Wolfe, Karen Knowler and Shazzie

b) Family/ Social Support and Survival - My experiences

c) Biological Terrain/ Live Blood Analysis course report

2) Worthwhile support projects

The following two have recently come to my attention.

a) Psychiatric Doctor - Dr Reddy was beginning to have success with his

" lifestyle program " which incorporated living-foods, fresh air sunshine,

clean water, until his funding was cut. If you are interested in supporting

this important work you can find more information at www.whyraw.com/lsp.html

b) In the UK there has been a proposal to add a genetically modified maize

variety Chardon LL to the national seed list (see

http://www.defra.gov.uk/planth/pvs/gmrep1.htm ) If this seed gets onto the

national seed list a flood of others could follow. Chardon LL - a GM

(herbicide tolerant) forage maize - is the first genetically modified plant

variety to be proposed for addition to the UK National List.

4) Quotes

Pasteur finally conceded, after a lifelong argument with Antoine Bechamps,

that Bechamp was right:

'le microbe n'est rien, ... le terrain est tout'

(the bacterium is nothing, the terrain [state of healthy balance of the

host] is everything)

ED: I would add that without a healthy terrain or immune system you are

susceptible to bacteria.

" .I would say that the simple reason that the majority of scientists are not

creative is not because then do not know how to think but because they don't

know how to stop thinking " The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle

" In 1922, a bunch of bones were found in Nebraska by a man named Harold

Cook. After studying the upper and lower jaws and the teeth of some thirty

animals, a complete ape known as Ramapithecus was constructed on the basis

of ONE TOOTH! Years later, the entire skeleton from which the tooth came was

found. It turned out to be an extinct species of pig. " Extracted From

Evolution: Fact or Fiction? James L. Melton

Medical Logic: What they say!

Medical Approach. If it works it is therapeutic and if it doesn't it was the

wrong drug

Alternative Approach. If it works it is a placebo and if it doesn't it is

called quackery
