---------

1) Recent Happenings at Fresh Up North

a) Shining Cliff Weekend Adventure

This weekend was a soothing retreat for all. Set in ancient woodland the

youth hostel provided an excellent opportunity to unwind and re-connect with

nature. We had a wonderful mix of sunshine, showers and bluebells. The

building was set half way up a hillside and surrounded by trees. Around the

back was a cave and the only sound was that of the birds and the FUN'ers

laughing and singing as they skipped through the woods.

We had some wonderful walks around the forests, taking in the fresh air, we

made new friendships, played with wheelbarrows (which were piled with things

like juicers, blenders, food and clothes) and picked wild dandelion and

nettles. We had the most amazing banquets, which included wild rice salads,

bell pepper salads, aubergine casserole, avocados dressing, beet-ginger

salads, stir raw, veggie mixes and lots of greens, which were laid out on

three picnic tables. The special treat was Anastasia's carrot cake on

Sunday, which everyone loved. We also had yoga sessions, meditations,

chanting, a trip to a tiny health food store in Matlock Bath (which all of

us managed to squeeze into :)) and lots of silly games with Jenny!

The real benefit was, however, beyond words; the bonding the love and the

inner stillness. Next year will be even better!

b) The Butenko Family

The workshop by Victoria was absolutely amazing. Alan, Jenny and myself took

a trip to London to this event. Victoria is a beautiful soul with so much to

give. Wherever you are on the raw food path I highly recommend her book " 12

Steps to Raw Food " . The following review includes information from Jenny, my

thoughts and quotes from the workshop. (see end of email for the steps)

Victoria's lecture focussed on the steps from her book. The first of which

involved the addiction to cooked food, which she started by asking us to

answer her addiction survey (see end of email). Very enlightening! Food is

wrapped in emotion from birth and we often use it in times when we are

" hungry, angry, lonely and depressed " . She encouraged everyone to admit his

or her addictions. Emotions were high and it was interesting to watch

peoples resistances come up as they admitted their addiction to bread,

coffee, chocolate and pizza to name the main ones.

The next step involved educating oneself in the reasons why we eat raw food.

" Nature is perfect sense, it is the only law that is. " When we take a

roasted almond and a raw one which do you think will grow? Take a fresh ripe

and raw apple and compare that to a baked (unsweetened apple). First of all

the baked will taste less than excellent and secondly it will not create a

peristaltic reaction. In other words cooked foods (because of the change in

fibre structure) wait for the next meal to push them through. That is why in

a balanced raw food body the bowels start to move soon after a meal.

Victoria showed us an excellent video comparing the blood of two people who

had eaten raw for 3 months and then eaten a small piece of cooked food.

Immediately the blood formed rouleau, a coagulation (see picture on fresh up

north website) of the red blood cells. Victoria shared with us " miraculous "

healing stories of tonsils and gall bladders growing back. She then

explained why the difference between 99% raw and 100% is so great. A 99% raw

body retains a protective mucus layer, therefore the absorption rate moves

from less than 5% to 40%+.

Step three revolved around the skills required in preparing the most

excellent raw food recipes, which could entice even the most dedicated

cooked food addict. Victoria explained that the key characteristics of a

gourmet raw recipe are bitter, sweet, spicy, sour and salty. No recipe is

the same because of the differences in natural foods. You can check a recipe

bearing in mind these flavours. Igor, Victoria's husband, prepared some

amazing foods for everyone to sample: cabbage slaw, rye bread, pate and

delicious soup and their highly renowned prize winning cake.

Step 4: Providing unconditional love to those around you whatever you eat is

essential. Communication with love is important at all times avoiding trying

to change another persons point of view e.g. " I am choosing to eat raw

foods, I respect and love you whatever you choose to eat and will always be

here to support you on your path " . The results are often more outstanding

than trying to change someone through pressure. From personal experience I

know this to be true. Watching my father change from butcher (of 35 years)

was a process of gaining respect and trust. Anytime I pushed too hard he

would turn away. Yet if I worked on myself and became an example, he then

started to ask for information and advice.

Step 5: Support is essential, find a raw buddy, share meals, equipment and

ideas. E.g. " I can make the crackers if you make the dressing " . Join or set

up a Fresh group. The power in the group energy is amazing and it is really

simple. The Fresh up North group is an excellent example. which started with

6 people just hanging out and is now the Europe's No 1 Raw Food Group.

Step 6: When you start on the raw food path, you will notice temptations

everywhere, if possible these should be avoided until you are strong enough

to pass them by. A temptation is something, which will give you short-term

pleasure and long-term pain where as a true desire is eternal pleasure. An

excellent way to prepare for these tempting situations is to play the

following game:

1) Choose an addiction e.g. chocolate

2) Ask a friend (or group or in your own conscious mind) to tempt you with a

statement like: " I have some amazing chocolate, it is all organic, really

creamy and I want to give it to you as a gift "

3) You reply with a statement like " Thank you for the thought, I do not eat

chocolate any more "

4) Then " you could give it to john, he loves chocolate "

5) And " Tell you what, I have some beautiful raw carrot cake at home, would

you like to share it with me? "

6) If playing in a group many people can challenge and even act as your

inner voice " go on, a little won't hurt you, just a taste. etc "

The power in this is phenomenal beyond belief!

Step 7: Going raw will give you extra time, money and energy, so find what

you love to do and just do it. Make a list of what you would really love to

do with your life.

Step 8: Letting you higher self-lead is simple, yet challenging. We are all

born into a society that promotes the second personality or as Gabriel

Cousens calls it " the personality is a case of mistaken identity " . We have

to play a role in society through our parents, school, and career. Yet this

does not provide happiness. The only way to happiness is through the higher

self. In learning to trust the universe we discover that everything we need

(not want) is and will be provided. What would you like as your epitaph " she

had a very good credit history! " or " she was a kind and loving person "

Step 9: Why do we seek pleasure from cooked food? Often we are numbing the

spiritual and emotional poverty that is prevalent in our lives. Yet we often

do not know what it is like on the " other side " so we just use food as our

pleasure. Make a list of the reasons why you seek comfort in eating cooked

food.

Step 10/11: Deep inside we know our true purpose, our divine blueprint. As

we begin to break away from our conditioning through raw foods, pure air and

living a spiritual life, we open up to the truth that lies within.

Step 12: Providing support for others is a beautiful step, I always remember

letters form a man called Dave Austin, who used to work for the fresh

network. They were inspiring, uplifting and helped me through the difficult

stages of transition. Give give give every opportunity you have. Make

delicious food for friends, you never know who's turn it is to go raw next.

Eyesight

Victoria then went on to talk about the exercises outlined in the book

" Relearning to See by Thomas R. Quackenbush " . The theory goes that eyesight

deteriorates under stress and the muscles around the eyes go into spasm. It

is interesting to note that " an obedient child is often the first to get

glasses in school " this was observed by Jenny a primary school teacher, yet

the children who are playing and moving around are less likely to.

Apparently all eyesight challenges can be corrected naturally (except laser

treated eyes) following three steps:

a) Create new habits - Imagine a very long feather on the end of your nose.

And draw around objects with a feather daily.

b) Wear your glasses as little as possible (no sunglasses as these trick the

eyes)

c) Eat raw foods

Teeth

Regenerating you teeth is about minerals. In the UK we are lucky because we

have the best teeth regenerator: Wild Nettles. They have the three main

ingredients for tooth growth which are a) Calcium b) Silica c) Vitamin D.

Victoria said this recipe is yummy blend Hemp-seed, Apple and Nettles

If you ever get the chance to see Victoria I highly recommend that you do.

If not at least buy her excellent book and turn the steps into action. See

dates at the end of this email for their weekend workshop next year.

d) The Fresh Network - after the event I went to see Karen at the Fresh

Network in Ely to give her some assistance. I met Peter, who is a great guy

and really funny. It was great to see Karen again after so long. She looks

really healthy with her new baby on the way, she will make the best mum

ever!

The work that Karen (and now peter) are doing is inspirational and I ask

everyone to support The Fresh Network. They are definitely the World's No 1

Raw Food Organisation embracing all aspects of living a raw lifestyle.

3) Quotes

" One of the remarkable features of the brain is the ability to make new

connections based on new experience. Like a tree growing new branches with

each new sunset, season, harvest moon, or gust of wind, you brain forms new

branches with each encounter of a smiling face, scent from a unfamiliar

rose, or musical harmony. " Smart Fats, Michael A. Schmidt

Be more, be less! Try new things everyday, in a new way. a new food, a

different path, a special word, more love. Expand yourself from within,

embrace the world fresh everyday. Open your mind, body and spirit to a whole

new world. And you will be surprised to find magic, mystery and infinite

beauty.
