Dear Raw-Foodists:

Many of you may be aware of EarthSave Seattle's regular, monthly (2nd-Thursdays) potluck program. On behalf of other EarthSave members, I would like to invite you to our next potluck, this coming Thursday (August 9, 6:30 PM) at the Seattle Unity Church (at 8th and John, across the street from Denny Park).

For those who may be unaware, at our potlucks you will find a wide range of vegan/vegetarian/raw-food dishes. We wish to reach out earnestly to the raw-foodists community again and hope that you will all join us at our monthly potlucks. Interestingly, you will find a familiar face behind the potluck's welcoming table---Jeff Rogers.

Also, the August 9 potluck will feature a special presentation on " Veganic Gardening " by guest speaker, Olga Schifani. Ms. Schifani will discuss the importance of eating organic foods and present ways in which chemicals and animal products may be eliminated from our food system. There will also be entertainment ( " Bingo! Don’t Sweat; It’s All Right " ); a raffle; " Tasters’ Choice " commendations for the most popular dishes; and copies available of the previous potluck’s favorite recipes. Another interesting bit of information: the most popular recipe from last month's potluck was a raw-food dish.

The potluck is free and open to all members and guests. We ask only that, in consideration of people with food allergies or dietary restrictions, you label ALL ingredients in the dish that you bring. Also, no flesh foods, please.

Let me also take this chance to invite you to consider joining EarthSave Seattle (http://seattle.earthsave.org). The membership benefits more than make up for the cost of the annual membership ($35 for individuals; $50 for families; $20 for students, seniors, and those " living lightly " ). The benefits include a discount (typically 10%) at a number of local businesses; free nutritional counseling from a registered dietician; a 10% discount on EarthSave library publications; and the sense of being part of a larger, like-minded community that advocates and supports a healthy lifestyle.

We are also offering a special membership promotion until January 1, 2002. Those who join, renew, or even extend at a $35 level or above, at the potlucks, will receive a free copy of celebrated author John Robbins’ much-awaited new book, " The Food Revolution " (retail price: $17.95). In addition, all those who join/renew/extend (at any level, whether by mail or at a potluck) will be eligible to win one of several exciting prizes ($15 to $50 value, each – e.g., a gift certificate from VeganStore.com) in a drawing at the January 2002 potluck. We look forward to seeing you all in our midst.
