Guest guest
Grretings to the Raw Ilk- I recently took my kitty to the puget sound's only Ayurvedic vet and asked about starting a raw food nd/or vegan diet and didn't get an enthusiastic response per either one. Hence: was wondering if anyone knows about CATS and raw food resources--- and i don't mean buying slaughter house chickens at QFC. I've tried giving her avocados, dulse and Bragg's to no avail. Guest guest
Karen, If you don't get the info you are looking for on this list, try asking for someone to contact you from the RawImmortal list (rawimmortal) that has information for you. One of the lists Christian mentioned may also have info for you. Guest guest
Since demand for all things holistic is growing, many formerly mainstream vets are educating themselves about natural treatments, but really only using the same tired old approach to disease (i.e., wait till animal gets sick, give medication/supplements/herbs). Also, even 'holistic' vets are not immune from early indoctrination by the pet food industry. So, you can't always depend on them for support. The best vets I know of that strongly advocate a raw diet are Dr. Larry Siegler in Redmond and Dr. Michael Lemmon in Renton. Dr. Lemmon is the best, imo. There are probably others as well, but I'm only familiar with the eastside. I have read it is tricky (some even believe impossible) to get a cat to thrive on a raw vegan diet, especially one that was formerly cooked. Dr. Lemmon might have some ideas for you. I've never discussed it with him, but I get the definite impression he believes that cats are carnivores and need meat & bones. I sympathize with your ethical dilemma, tho. Keep us posted on whatever you learn. Nora " Karen M.
