Greetings: Just makes you want one right now, doesn't it? Perfect Right Now: Mouthwatering Mangos Organic mangos are just perfect right now.Sensuously sticky and lush, the mango is one of the most popular tropical fruits, after the banana and the coconut. It is a cashew relative and grows on an evergreen tree. The mango has a smooth, leathery skin colored green, yellow, or red. Mangos are generally round to oval and vary in weight from six ounces to one and a half pounds. The juicy orange-colored flesh clings to a large, flat stone. Health Benefits: A mango's thermal property is cooling, thus it is

useful in clearing heat from the body and in quenching thirst. This delectable fruit is a superior source of vitamins A and C and provides a good source of potassium. It is moderately high in calories. Use: In mango-producing areas, the fruits are often available from sidewalk vendors, peeled and skewered upon a stick, better than a lollipop. The stick enables you to tease away the sweet flesh that clings to the pit. Otherwise, removing the flesh from the pit is a slippery affair. The best way is to slice the fruit lengthwise all around the stone. Cut the slices and pull them away from the stone, then peel and discard the skin. A mango (like other fruits) is most flavorful at room temperature. If the mango has an off taste at room temperature, chilling will indeed mask the foul flavor. But why not just toss it? With or without a squeeze of lime, use raw mango, sliced or cut into chunks, for vegetable, fruit, and meat salads, fruit kabobs,

parfaits and puddings; or puree mango for ice cream and smoothies. This all-around fruit is equally delicious cooked in tarts, cakes, and cobblers, or even made into jelly. Immature mangos are a classic chutney, relish, and pickle ingredient. Mangos should be firm, plump, and fresh looking and have a pleasant, spicy aroma at the stem end. If there is no scent, the fruit will be flavorless. Ripen at room temperature in a brown bag until the fruit yields slightly to pressure, like a ripe avocado. As the mango ripens, the skin intensifies (green skinned mangos excepted). Once ripe, a mango may be refrigerated for several days. What Mangos and Poison Ivy have in common - Four botanical relatives - mangos, poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac - all contain urushiol. For people with allergies, this toxic resin can cause contact dermatitis or blistering skin. The peel and juice of a mango seem to be more of a problem than the

flesh-especially immature fruits. Eating mangos to excess may cause itching or skin eruptions. Remain Focused and Good Health to You Elaine
