So I took my friends Matt & Sandy's advice and went into Arnold's Way (vegan raw cafe & store) to get some ear candles. I didn't have to tell Arnold I was sick, he new it soon as he saw me (he'd never seen me before). I told him what was up, but didn't tell him which ear was tweaked out, he was able to figure that by further looking at me. While there I had a green smoothie as well as a banana whip sample and loved them both. I left there with not just ear candles, but a couple bags of produce and inspiration to go home and get some raw veggies & fruits in me. Arnold also gave me one of his green smoothie recipes (on a later trip), this would change my life. Once home I whipped out the

juicer and got busy grinding up carrots, celery, zucchini, kale and whatever else I had into a hard core juice concoction. It wasn't the best tasting, but after a few days of fresh, raw juice and green smoothies, I was cured. I didn't go to the doctor so I didn't take any prescription meds, no pills for that matter. I healed from that (TERRIBLE) ear infection simply by introducing raw fruits and veggies into my body. For the past year now I have been experimenting with the benefits of this (living foods) diet. I hijacked my uncle's juicer, food processor, and parent's blender, as well as purchased my own dehydrator as to be able to make all these wonderous creations that had not only brought me to a new level of health, but enabled those around me at Arnold's to heal their dis-ease to be the source of a new, brilliant glow. (I worked there part-time last Spring, after the ear infection experience, to learn all I could about raw foods). There was one

woman that I clearly recall. She spoke with a Polish accent and was in town from MA on business. She ate mostly vegetarian food but eating a pure raw diet was very new to her. She heard of Arnold's through one of the health food store guides, I was working that first day she came in. I made her a special meal, green smoothie and banana whip for she was very hungry. She expressed how inspiring we all were to her, for we cared so much for what went into out bodies and for the great steps we had taken outside the convenience food routine. Turns out she was in town for a week, and each day she ate at Arnold's. I was working that next week, exactly 7 days after she was first in the store, she entered that store on the 7th day of eating raw foods and she was absolutely glowing. The light around her had changed, lightened and intensified. She admitted to feeling amazing, being full of life and energy. She communicated to her husband (back at home) how she

was feeling due to what she'd been eating, he was happy for her but not totally sold on changing his diet. (She told me this later on another visit), He changed his mind when she returned home and he saw how good she looked. He also told her she was glowing. The next time she was in town, she bought all the necessary equiptment to prepare for herself and her hubby raw foods. Living in a way that is healing and beneficial to our soul and body is not easy, nor is it convenient, and you won't find it on the menu at 97% of the places you like to frequent. I've learned to balance the raw foods with cooked vegetarian meals to create a plane I am happy with, for now. When I need the energy to pull an all-nighter, or in some rare cases, an all- weeker, I eat all raw foods. Forget the coffee, the sugar, that shit slows me down. I know people from Arnold's who are/were overweight, and by taking in green smoothies as part of a mostly raw diet, have lost significant weight as well as have gotten off their meds (blood pressure, diabetes, etc). I've talked to a number of people who, by changing their diet, have gotten off their anti-depressant medications and are now naturally happy and brilliant. Please know that I am not preaching that people change their diet as drastically as I once did, but if you can understand how beneficial raw fruits and veggies can be, then maybe you'll make this one small change and add this one thing to your daily diet: a green smoothie. I've been drinking green smoothies for a year now and I've noticed that I have increased energy, am happier, and have a stronger immune system, which limits me to only slight discomforts as opposed to full blown colds, flues, and viruses. A few months ago I took a trip across this country, I took only my food processor because I figured most people had a blender that I could use to create my green smoothies. Well, for the first 2+ weeks

of the journey I had no such luck finding a blender so I neglected just how important these drinks were to me and went on without them. I traveled from PA down to FL and by the time I was in FL for over a week (and off of green smoothies for 2+ weeks) I was struck with a horrid cold. My immune system dropped and I had a head full of snot, I went through an entire big box of tissues in less than 9 hours. At the end of that day my friend Mike, insisted that we stop and get me a blender so I could start making green smoothies. I had suffered for over a week after the snot attack due to an infection in my lungs. That first full day with the blender I started making green smoothies as well as drinking a tea that I make to cure my crazed and pissed off lungs/throat. Once I did that, about 2 weeks later I was back to my normal self. That was the only long break I've taken from the smoothies, and I learned just how crucial they are to my strong immune system.

Since I’ve gotten hooked on them, my mom & dad have also joined in and usually consume them on a daily basis. Since my dad began drinking close to a quart a day, he was able to get off his high blood pressure medications. He also claims he is less irritable and more easy going. I hope I inspire you to try them, here's the recipe: Green Smoothies (don't worry, you can't make a mistake, the base is bananas and greens) Basic recipe: 2 bananas (frozen is best) 3-4 leaves kale (or equivalent of Chard, Collards, Spinach, Mustard or your fav dark leafy green) 1 apple 2-3 dates 10-16 oz water (your preference) BLEND & DRINK I make them so I have enough in the fridge to last me at least 2-5 days. This decreases the amount of time I have to deal with them on a daily basis. One of my favorite variations is to use the bananas and swiss chard (spinach is my other fav), the meat and water from a young coconut, 1 mango, 1 orange, and a touch of water and blend up. Use your favorite fruits and rock it. I'm not selling anything here, no supplements, no powders, no pills, no lies, just purity from nature. Remember, always go organic! PS: I know most macros don't agree with mixing fruits and veggies, but not many of us are that sensitive yet. Regardless, many people don't consider dark leafy greens to be vegetables. Greens really do deserve their own food group. PSS: Blending greens is much more beneficial than eating greens in a salad due to the oils usually dribbled on them, also because not many people actually chew as much as is necessary to break down each and every cell in the greens, which is what gives us the most benefit from the raw greens. you can visit tari and look some more of her art at http://www.myspace.com/aaote Movie night Where & When 319 West Main Street Lansdale,

Pennsylvania 19446 Every Friday 6pm Free whips and smoothies- this friday Fast Food Nation Inspired by the incendiary bestseller that exposed the hidden facts behind America's fast food industry comes a powerful drama that takes an eye-opening journey into the dark heart of the All-American meal. Richard Linklater's FAST FOOD NATION traces the birth of an

everyday, ordinary burger through a chain of riveting, interlocked human stories - from a hopeful, young immigrant couple who cross the border to work in a perilous meat- packing plant, to a teen clerk who dreams of life beyond the counter; to the corporate marketing whiz who is shocked to discover that his latest burger invention - "The Big One" - is literally full of manure. As the film traverses from pristine barbeque smoke labs to the volatile U.S.-Mexican border, it unveils a provocative portrait of all the yearning, ambition, corruption and hope that lies inside what America is biting into.
