Guest guest Posted December 14, 2006 Report Share Posted December 14, 2006 This article about the possible hazards of soy may have some valid data, however it was clearly posted on a right-wing tabloid's website known as "World Net Daily." This easily became obvious to me when I saw a pop-up ad on the left side with a smiling woman wearing a t-shirt showing Hillary Clinton's face in a red cross-out symbol under the heading, "Re-Defeat Communism in 2008." I won't disclose my specific view of Sen. Clinton now, but this assessment is just as ludicrous as the notion that soy makes people become "gay." The ad is for a right-wing t-shirt company. According to an article I read in the Science Times of the NY Times over 20 years ago, a certain section of the brain was found to determine someone's sexual orientation. A specific cluster of cells in the cerebral cortex would be larger if she/he was homosexual, and smaller if she/he was heterosexual. Even if one were to consume foods higher in estrogen than some other foods, this wouldn't "feminize" that person by itself. Nevermind that Ted Turner has repeatedly said that there should be a 100-year moratorium on men running for public office because women would make the world more peaceful if they controlled the entire political sphere. (FYI, I take exception to those who would use Ms. Clinton as an example.) I wouldn't mind a more "feminized" world myself, but then again I'm not the average misogynist or chauvinist with which the right wing finds such cozy company. I happen to agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Turner on this point alone. Soy itself has been found scientifically to be very allergenic, but this gives the right wing no license to use this problem as an excuse to resort to their traditional homophobic scare tactics, just as they have used intimidation so well over the past 6 years in their manufactured "war on terror" as a thin veil for other malodorous objectives. Suffice to say, if we're going to discuss such crucial dietary concerns, at least have the integrity to present it without disingenuous and deliberately insulting bigotry. While the argument about estrogens in soy is valid to an extent, the more important cautions have to do with hyper thyroid, acidity, and the fact that soy in most forms is not a living food. Soy is also genetically modified in most forms. It's true that Soy can be dangerous in moderate to large amounts. This is a good message to send because it brings awareness. Saying that kids turn gay because of soy is not helpful to anyone, and it's offensive. I first followed a heart specialist in my quest for perfect health. He even said that soy was not meant to be a beverage. Soy was only to be consumed in small amounts with other foods. Now I realize that soy in any amount is not beneficial when you have a balanced living foods diet of nuts, grains, seeds, fruits, leafy greens, and vegetables. Soy is often used as a transition food for people becoming vegan. Many have great success using soy during this crucial time. But they end up eating soy in large amounts to compensate for a supposed lack of protein--buying into the myth of this meat-based America. Eventually they see that all of these ways around meat are a dead end. Lots of things can go wrong when we mess with nature's divine system. Trying to control or manage the body with man-made foods, or substitutes leads to all kinds of whacky results. This rediculous e-mail is a good example of what can go wrong when someone is still under the influence of the old meat-based masculine energy. Coming at things from the abundant earth-mother perspective, you would never even put forth these kinds of thoughts because they promote fear and spread rumors which take away from the true point of the discussion.
