Guest guest Posted October 21, 2006 Report Share Posted October 21, 2006 Greetings Members:I hope everyone had a fantastic summer, filled with lots of fun, sun and superb produce.My apologies for back sliding on group activities this year but I was forced to take a break from as much involvment with the group in order to plan a last minuet Family Reunion (first time ever and alone!) What was I thinking. All I can say is that it was an awesome and very emotional event that was equally a life altering and learning experience. Most of all, it was more successful than I could ever have imagined. Through it all I managed (with Ron's help) to grow the most colorful and bountiful flower beds ever. I even had none ending yields of jalepano peppers, mesclun salad mix, tomatoes and pole greenbeans. My third and most tasty pride and joy though, were my herbs. Absolutely nothing can compare to fresh cut herbs to throw into whatever you're preparing in the kitchen especially fresh juice and salads. Now is when I ask for your help. Can anyone offer suggestions as to what to do with herb pots after the last harvest. (at least I think it was the last) This summer I grew several varieties of basil, two varieties of dill, cilantro, parsley, english thyme, oregano, margoram, lemon balm, three varieties of chives and some sage. I've placed most of the pots inside now, in front of my bay window for as much sunlight as possible. Is there a chance that they will continue to produce herbs throughout the winter? Last year I left the pots outside covered with heavy plastic. In the spring of this year we brought them inside to warm and prepare the soil for planting new seeds. To my surprise, herbs sprouted up from last year but not to a point where I could harvest them.Any suggestions will be appreciated.
