Cooked tomatoes for lycopene?

Hi Michael,

Lycopene is one of the latest "wonder substances" found by researchers in their never-ending hunt for miracle-nutrients. It is considered a powerful antioxidant, but then most people don't know what an antioxidant is or does. Suffice it to say that in a coked food world, the vital capacity of everyone is diminished, such that various unhealthful biochemical processes take hold, further weakening the system and its capacity to respond to everything.

As a RF, over time, your vitality will improve greatly, and you can simply ignore the entire topic of antioxidants, unless you just happen to be interested.

The lycopene in raw tomatoes is just fine, perfectly bioavailable in just the right amount. Remember, as a RF, you are eating FAR more fresh fruits and vegetables than most of the population. So while they are deficient in almost every nutrient, you are not (or will not be, over time).

As for a few cooked tomatoes, if you eat them because you love them, I;'d say "great!" If you eat ANY food in search of some particular nutrient, I'd say, just eat! Single-nutrient thinking, a form of what is called "fractional thinking", generally holds us back far more than it helps us.

Best,

Elchanan

I eat cooked tomatoes from time to time, even when I get pretty strict about raw foods. I have always included these in my diet because they are the best source of lycopene. I heard from a credible source that they must be cooked in order to make this necessary nutrient available. Does anyone have any more info on this? What about Sundried Tomatoes? Do they have lycopene?

I am not too sure what lycopene is or why it is important either. All I know is I do love cooked and sundried tomatoes and see no harm in them even on a very strict raw vegan diet.
