Oil Storm

(a Katrina like film that aired June 2005)

On Sunday night, 5 june 2 005, at 8:00 p.m. EST, the FX Network, a subsidiary of Fox Television which is owned by Commander-in-Chief George W. Bush, Jr.’s cousin Rupert Murdoch, aired a very interesting docudrama entitled "Oil Storm." This film was written by British director James Erskine who is another Bush cousin. It chronicled the aftermath of a category 4 Hurricane Julia that hit the Gulf Coast of America during the week before Labor Day 2005. This hurricane destroyed a little-known island off the coast of Louisiana called Port Fourchon. This island just happens to be a vitally strategic location for the oil industry because it is positioned at the mouth of the Mississippi River, the gateway to the American Heartland.

This mythical Hurricane Julia also submerged the City of New Orleans under 15-20 feet of water for months, killing tens of thousands and causing hundreds of thousands to seek refuge in the severely damaged Superdome until they could be rescued by the U.S. military once the federal government declared martial law and took control of the city. It also triggered a domino-effect of massive mayhem that included nationwide gas and food shortages and price increases (gas got up to $9.00/gal.!), double-digit unemployment, and eventual world war.

In a foreshadowing of the September 11, 2001 attacks, subsequent conspiracy theories, and the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the plot of the March 4, 2001 pilot episode of the series depicts a secret U.S. government agency plotting to crash a Boeing 727 into the World Trade Center via remote control for the purpose of blaming the attack on foreign "tin-pot dictators" who are "begging to be smart-bombed." This episode aired in Australia less than two weeks before the 9/11 attacks, on August 30.
