Guest guest
I know this is a little late, but I wanted to take the time to thank Ron and Elaine for hosting another successful potluck. First, Ron and Elaine, being the incredible host and hostess they are, put on another fabulous production this past weekend. Whether it's the spur-of-moment raw concoctions made by Chef Ron, the enlightening conversations had with other potluck attendees, the FABULOUS raw cheesecake that Ron and Elaine serve as dessert (and for those of you who attended the last potluck, if you thought THAT cheesecake was delicious, THIS one was over-the-top), the numerous culinary ideas one gets from tasting raw dishes cooked by others, the loving energy that Ron and Elaine's home exudes, their extensive collection of raw un-cook books and videos, or their warmth and hospitality -- their potlucks definitely provide the motivation, empowerment, connections, and education raw foodists and aspiring raw foodists need to take their lifestyle to the next level. This past potluck featured Chef " Go-Go Greens " Elijah of Java Green Restaurant. Elijah's vivacious presentation style even got the children going. Throughout the presentation, Elijah offered up taste tests as the greens passed through several stages of readiness. Thank goodness Althea showed up right on time with her Marinated Kale salad (recipe from Joy of Living Live) to placate the audience until Elijah's green's were finally ready. I really can't decide what the best part of the presentation was: Chef Elijah's energetic, comic relief, audience member Freedom's out-of-this-world facial expressions as she " massaged " and " worked " the greens, assistant Lulu's frequently needed tissue-pats of Chef Elijah's sweaty face (he was working those greens y'all), or the moment that we all got to hold our very own container of Go-Go Greens. Nevertheless, the greens were not the only feature. When Chef Elijah hinted at the notion of not being able to continue due to time constraints, the audience nearly revolted, thus forcing Elijah to conjure up one more, scrumptious concoction: the almond pate. There wasn't enough for everyone, and so potluck attendees struggled over who would have the honor of purchasing the last 8 oz serving of Elijah's almond pate. (Elaine has the recipe for this for those of you who are curious.) Most importantly, I want to thank Ron and Elaine for their selflessness and their willingness to be enablers of the raw food movement. I truly look forward to the next potluck!
