Guest guest Posted June 21, 2005 Report Share Posted June 21, 2005 Farm Sanctuary vs. Corcpork, Inc.Farm Sanctuary is pursuing a groundbreaking lawsuit against Corcpork, one of California's largest pig farms, for failing to provide pigs with adequate space to exercise. The suit, filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, marks the first time that California’s anti-cruelty law has been used to challenge a common farming practice. On June 15, 2005, the L.A. Times featured Farm Sanctuary’s historic suit on the front page of its business section, educating nearly a million readers about the cruel treatment of pigs on factory farms. Unfortunately, the judge dismissed it on a technicality. We are now looking to appeal the decision and to have the case move forward on the merits. 35 Brown "Layer" Hens Escape SlaughterThis hen, now named Mona, and 34 other beautiful brown hens, were rescued from miserable circumstances in Cortland, New York. Confined to battery cages for years, and valued only for the brown eggs they laid, these unhappy hens were scheduled to be slaughtered because their production levels had dropped. Instead, they were rescued by Farm Sanctuary, where the value of a day is determined by the number of naps and dust baths taken, not by the number of eggs laid. Read more.
