Peace !

 

I pray that everyone is staying cozy warm on this snowy evening. I'm enjoying this opportunity to rest for a day or two.

 

Nancy, thanks for your questions about the book. My intention is for this book to be a beginners transitional tool starting from wherever anyone is with their diet to moving towards a balanced and healthy raw and living foods diet and lifestyle. When I first began writing, I was adamantly against dehydrating foods, but the more I spoke with the long-term raw food interviewees featured in the book and also researching and experimenting, the more I understood that dehydrating is a helpful transitional tool. We are moving a people who have been eating dead, denatured foods for many generations to eating a vibrant living foods diet in just a short period of time- it's challenging. We need all the assistance we can get. I don't have a lot of dehydration recipes, just the basics- bread, crackers, and a few creative entrees. I don't eat a lot of dehydrated products myself, but I may after I totally and completely eliminate cooked foods from my diet.

I use nuts in some of the desserts, "cheeses", and nut loaves. There are over 100 recipes for everything from sauces, salads, and dressings to dishes such as battered mushrooms, spring rolls, spinach quiche, tortilla chips, brownies, cheesecake, pizza wraps, nutmilks, juices, growing your own wheatgrass, making rejuvalac, making your own raw tofu, etc. I explain the importance of soaking and sprouting, exercise, meditation, prayer, food preparation techniques, making the transition, herbs and spices, eating organic foods, fasting, food combining, how to eat properly, and holistic dental care. It's a beginners holistic guide for how to live the lifestyle from those of us who do it, not just on eating the food.

 

I do use rice wraps and tortilla wraps in some of the recipes because during the Raw Food Weeks that we have 4 times a year in the Hebrew Israelite Community, we can consume bread and crackers since many are moving from not having any knowledge of raw foods before meeting the Community, to elevating their diet to include primarily fruits and vegetables. I do, however, list bread [salt and sugar] substitutes. We at and in the raw food movement are very blessed to have come in contact with such knowledge at this time in our lives, but there are millions of people who look just like us who have never even heard of such a thing. Those are the ones we have to reach in any way that we can.

 

Most recipes in the book are simple and any questions that you may have, please just let me know. I will be more than happy to assist you. I'm looking to do some raw food preparation classes before I travel again this season, but I will keep you posted.

Can you tell us a little more about the book. What percent is dehydrated things, how much is salads & dressings, the percent of recipes using nuts? How complex are the recipes, etc.

I have some good news and some bad news...

 

First the bad news...

 

I will not be selling the raw food at everlasting life once a week. It is too taxing for one person to make that much food in one night. I do appreciate all of the support you have given me.

 

Good news...

 

We will be incorporating new live foods into our daily menu in the juicebar and deli at Everlasting Life very very soon (within the next month or two).

 

Good news...

 

My book The Joy of Living Live: A Raw Food Journey (it includes that Raw Cake recipe, Gary and Jacqueline, along with over 100 more international recipes) will be released on February 1st. The book is in full-color, beautiful, informative, and features interviews by long-time African-American raw foodists, including our own Lynda Carter. (Lynda, your copy is coming next week.)

Good news...

 

The Live Spring Rolls will be distributed to local health food stores including our own within the next 2 months (for a limited time).

 

 

We appreciate all of your patience and support as Everlasting Life was navigating through its financial crisis with the down-sizing of the Capital Heights location and limitations on our organic produce and product ordering. Many businesses fail in the first 5 years, but we are going strong. The crisis is now over and this is going to be a great season.

I'm very intrigued by your reference to the Raw Food Weeks in the Hebrew

Israelite community in this last message. I would greatly enjoy the opportunity

to spend time with like-minded raw (hopefully vegan) Jews and others interested

in the relationship between these two communities. I once attended a Kabbalistic

raw food retreat with Gabriel Cousens and David Wolfe in October 2003 in

Brooklyn, NY, and I'd like to expand on that realm of spiritual understanding,

both from culinary and religious perspectives. Please send me information

regarding how I can get involved in these Raw Food Weeks. I'd like to know

exactly where and when they occur and who to contact for more details. Since I

don't have home access to the Internet, I'd appreciate if you'd call me at

410-902-1663 after 7:30 PM on weeknights with any up-to-date details you may
