Guest guest
The following is from Gabriel Cousens, CONSCIOUS EATING (I like the book very much!!) The need for high protein is centered on fear rather than fact….financed for the most part by the Meat and Dairy industry who decided that we need 120 g of protein a day. Modern research of today from around the world shows that we need between 20-35g a day for men and non pregnant women. THE JOURNAL OF CLINICAL NUTRITION states that we need about 2.5% of our total calories to come from protein aprox. 18g/day. The World Health Organization suggests 4.5% of our calories about 32g/day. Mother’s milk has about 5%. One will automatically get enough protein with a vegetarian diet. FYI ~ when I tracked my calories/protein in the beginning, on 100% raw I got 10% of calories from protein without focusing at all on protein….that was on mostly fruits/vegetables and occasional nuts. · The American Dietetic Association says that pure vegetarian diets in America usually contain twice the required protein fro one’s daily needs. · Lancet (British Medical Journal) said that vegetarian protein is no longer considered second-class. If the vegetarian protein is consumed in its live state, even less protein intake is needed because research shows that one half of the assimilable protein is destroyed by cooking. · Over consumption of protein contributes to the development of many of our most common and serious diseases such as arthritis, pyorrhea, schizophrenia, atherosclerosis, heart disease, cancer and kidney damage. High protein diet causes premature aging. LOTS MORE, but I have to go…. BEV
