Guest guest
Greetings Fatimah, I commend you for nursing and being such a conscientious mom! Our baby, Samaya, is 14 months and is still nursing. I also feed her on demand. High demand! I nurse everywhere and anywhere. Just ask the dancers in my bellydance class. :-) I have been a vegan for about 15 years and a vegetarian before that (grew up in a veggie household). Now, about 70% of my food is live (ah, the cereal!). There are no nutrients to be gained from a cooked veggie that can't be attained from a live one. In fact, with live you will get more... much more. So not to worry… a few things though: While nursing you want to make sure you get good fats for baby brain development and their weight gain. I eat coconut oil (1 tsp or so in my morning drink or over the food), avocado, soaked nuts (my husband makes me the BEST nutmilk from Brazil and/or Macadamia nuts!). Protein and calcium can be had from live leafy greens (we have some really slammin' dressing recipes in the archived messages). Vitamin D is ESSENTIAL. Please get yourself and the baby some extended sun time. I have 2 patients and 1 friend (in Seattle) whose children have rickets (they are not all vegetarian BTW). Vitamin D is free and if you live in Washington state you need to store up for the winter and rainy days (which are many). Check out www.askbillsardi.com for a great article on how lack of Vit. D in people of color can result in susceptibility to many ailments including diabetes, hypertension and cancers. Plenty of mangos, oranges, berries and other fruits (organic, of course) for C and antioxidants. I also take a nursing mom tea (Traditional Medicinals or Yogi Tea) to make sure I produce lots of ‘Cosmic Baby Juice’. J Feel free to write to me directly if you feel I can help you further. Be well, ~Sunyatta www.VegSoul.com
Guest guest
Hi there. Thank you sooo much for emailing me. I started to write you a couple of times and hesitated, thinking you are far to busy to deal with emails. The rainy season has already started here in Seattle. My options for sun are limited. could you give me other Vitamin D sources? You mentioned in your email that you have clients here in Seattle. What is your charge? I really need someone to consult me for a while on this path. (Nutritionally, Emotionally, kind of prep me and give me ideas for a solid program) Would you be interested? Or would you ahve the time? I have looked at your website many times. Do you ever hold any engagements out here in the Pacific Northwest? Have you ever taped your belly dancing classes? Like could I see a class from CD or DVD? I would really love to have the opportunity to sit in one of your classes. But through cyberspace is about the only way I would be able to do it. Oh yeah...I do add an oil to my smoothies. It is called Udo's Choice Oil Blend. It has flax oil, sunflower, sesame, rice germ, bran and oat germ oils. I thought it might be good but I wasn't sure.
