not somethong that we need to be convinced or sold on. It's like

trying on a hat. If it fits you great and if not you don't have to

keep it. Most important is to not let other people, places or things

replace our own thinking.

I agree wholeheartedly with this post! There will always be someone

who will find fault with one thing or another because it didn't work

for them. We have a lot of degrees of raw and they all kinda conflict

in one way or another with each other:

Genefit Nutrition - Use your natural senses of smell to eat what your

body needs at that moment and if your body no longer needs it, it'll

either begin to taste awful to you or your tongue will begin to burn,

etc. Good concept and makes sense but they, too, suggest eating (in

addition to fresh fruit and veggies) to eat raw animal flesh and drink

raw milk (fresh and organic, of course)

Natural Hygiene (and there are even different degrees of this!)- Raw

foodism kicked up a notch or two...proper food combining and mostly

mono-eating; no grains (even raw ones soaked, sprouted, etc.); there

is no disease, only toxins and the body releasing or attempting to

release those toxins (for the most part), no supplements, no

superfoods, etc. etc.

Raw veganism (general and very broad) - As long as it's vegan, and

raw, anything goes for the most part. Nuts, seeds, fruit, veggies,

grains, herbs, dehydrated treats, raw gourmet dishes, improperly as

well as properly combined foods, fermented raw foods, superfoods, etc.

etc. all acceptable.

Then we have the other raw fooders who eat not only raw fruits and

veggies, but also raw meat, milk and cheese

Everyone feels their way is THE way and have compelling arguements to

support their beliefs. It's like religion and

spirituality...everyone's way is THE right way and all others...

About the teeth issue...I haven't seen or heard it a lot but only a

few times on a couple of message boards where teeth was a concern.

I'm not 100% raw YET and haven't been at this for that long; but my

take on it is that when we are steadily consuming high amounts of

sugar in the form of fruit, dried fruit, juices that we have to make

sure we're on top of our dental hygiene practices. Rinsing our mouths

or brushing after every meal or every drink when possible.

Perhaps the individuals who had dental issues were not doing that,

who's to say? I know that there are a lot of raw fooders who've been

at it for a while who aren't experiencing problems. I, personally,

have dental issues with a few teeth that started long before even

knowing about a raw diet. Those teeth have since come out...first the

mercury fillings fell out and eventually, the rotted teeth followed

suit. Now, my gums seem to be healing up. I will visit a Dentist,

but not until I'm done nursing my baby. Don't know how true it is,

but I've read a couple of places where folks who switched to a raw

diet actually had all mercury fillings to fall out and new teeth

regerated (sounds far-fetched, I know...but hey, ya never know, right?)

All-in-all, as Mark stated, it's good to learn and then try and if it

works for you, keep at it and if not, try something different until

you find what does.

I personally feel that a primarily fruit and-some-veggies-based diet

(with nuts and seeds added in moderation) is the ultimate human diet

but it will take time and possibly some uncomfy times as the body

re-adjusts after years of eating in complete opposite to that concept.

It's also very mental because we've been taught to view a healthy

body to look a " certain " way; taught that certain " feelings " mean

hunger or this or that; taught that when you get a pain, take

something for it and this could be pharmaceutical, OTC, or even

herbal. It's a total make-over that goes deeper than just what we eat

or don't eat.

Peace,

Cherie
