Theconference, attended by 8 independent African states, declared April15th "Africa Freedom Day". Later, on May 25th, 1963, the Organizationof African Unity (OAU) was founded. The OAU subsequently proclaimed May25th as African Liberation Day (ALD). Since that year ALD manifestationshave been held in every corner of the African world.ALD is an opportunity to become more politically educated about thehistory and current reality of Africa, in addition to Africa'srelationship to the struggles of other oppressed people of the world. It is a chance to hear directly from men, women and youth who are on thefront line of struggle for Pan-Africanism and other just struggles. ALDcelebrates the glorious and rich culture of Africa, but more importantlyit is a chance to dedicate our energies and our creativity to theAfrican Revolution.Join SALSA this year as we recognize ALD '04 with an intriguing film anddiscussion to politically educate ourselves about the history andcurrent reality of Africa. The documentary "African History; The Rise ofNationalism" will illuminate the glorious and rich culture most closelylinked to the contemporary African liberation struggle.
