Guest guest
Hi, I recently joined. I eat quite abit of raw foods (always raw fruit breakfast)and I juice veggies every day (GreenStar juicer). Anyway, I have some questions. I would like to know which gadget is preferred for preparing salad ingredients, sometimes get tired of grating beets etc. Also, I am reluctant to buy raw almond butter because I checked the companies and they don't soak the almonds - I was taught that its not good to eat alot of seeds and nuts unsoaked? Also concerned about using raw tahini for the same reason. I had the pleasure of meeting Aris when he co-owned that wonderful raw restaurant in Bethesda many years ago, wish I had paid closer attention to his recipes I am in my 60's and am concerned about vitamin/mineral deficiencies on all raw? Currently I usually eat a cooked soup and vegetable meal in the evening and will admit that I do eat some organic raw cheeses and also eat some organic plain yogurt,I have low blood sugar and seems like I need some heavier proteins sometimes? Thanks for info Brit
Guest guest
Greetings Brit and welcome. I too had low blood sugar concerns and during that transition period I was about 75% raw when you put in the raw veggie juices. I would frequently blend the nuts w/ my juices that I drank throughout the day so I got protien throughout the day as opposed to more protien. I did bannas occasionally and usually w/nuts or seeds(soaked) in a smoothie (may not be optimal food combining but worked for me). No dried fruits, dates ect. The apples are repoted to help regulate blood sugar, the berries and cherries worked well and pears, melons and mangoes, which gave me enough variety. I'd have legumes or grains w/my green vegetables for lunch and dinner and ate almonds (about nine) if i felt my sugar dropping. After about a year the food restrictions were not needed and now i can eat dried fruits and drink fruit juice although i generally pass on it and maybe fruit juice if I'm on a fast. The smothies worked well about an hour after my workouts. Side note, humans are normally lowest in blood sugar between 1-3pm (Chinese medicine) so not an ideal time to exercise or starve yourself if you have sugar imbalances. Guest guest
Brit, I'm writing to answer your concern about vitamin/mineral deficiencies on all raw diet. The other day a ran across and article about Dr. Ruth Heidrich, who I beleive is in her 60's. Some of her accomplishments include -a certified fitness trainer and holds 3 world records for fitness for her age group at the renowned Cooper Clinic in Dallas, Texas. - actively competes in marathons and triathlons, having won more than 800 trophies and medals since her diagnosis of breast cancer in 1982 at the age of 47. One of the best thing about her is that she is a raw foodist who only eats fruits and vegetables. That was a concern of mine because I have a growing teen who has wheat and nut allergies. You can read more about her at http://www.vegsource.com/heidrich/. I pray this puts your mind at ease. Agape Love, Contessa and family , " abrit38 " <abrit38> wrote: > Hi, I recently joined. Guest guest
Thank you both for your input and information, I appreciate it. Tonight I cooked a tofu stir fry and decided that I am sick of cooked food for sure =:0 I am going to try and eat more raw. Regarding the nut butters, as I mentioned, they are made from raw unsoaked nuts (I also didn't think they tasted too good either) so I usually buy the Maranatha roasted organic almond butter, same with tahini. What do most of you use? Do you ever eat the Manna Bread or is it too cooked? I sometimes feel a need for some sort of bread I am sorry to say Brit , blakenson@a... wrote: > Greetings Brit and welcome. > I too had low blood sugar concerns and during that transition period I was about 75% raw when you put in the raw veggie juices.
