Dang Beverly, you sound SO much like me (we should chat off-list

sometime! :-D)

But I agree with what you've said. Eating a raw foods diet (I'm

learning as I too, transition) doesn't have to be all about recipes

and " gourmet " dishes. This is one of the reasons that while I know

I will experiment and learn to prepare the dishes, I am leaning more

towards the " Natural Hygiene " way of eating where it's just fresh

fruits and veggies, mainly in mono-meals or with proper food

combining.

I have a juicer that we pulled out the cabinet and " dusted off "

within the last year. It's not an expensive model, but it does the

job for now. I also have a blender. I use it to make smoothies and

to make my own salad dressings and other stuff. I'm having fun

playing around and experimenting. I don't have a dehydrator

either. I'd like to get one and will soon, but for now, I've been

experimenting with my oven set on the lowest temp with the oven door

cracked open.

I've also heard that a 75 watt light bulb in the oven with a tray of

the food to be dehydrated right under it (oven OFF) will also work;

haven't tried that yet, though.

I, too, am on a budget. I buy organic when I can and when I can't,

I just get my fruits and veggies from the fruit market, use a

natural veggie cleaner and prayer! But when I can, I try to get

organic. I've noticed it's not THAT much more in cost; somethings

more than others and I think it may depend on if the item is in or

out of season too.

If you have a local farmers market, try there as well as it may be

cheaper.

I practially LIVE off of bananas...they're definitely a main staple

in my household for eating or for making smoothies (or raw ice

cream - Mmmm!)

So, Triciegirl, start out with the basics...just incorporating more

fresh fruits/veggies into your diet and work with what you have

until you CAN afford the other stuff. Do a search online

for " Natural Hygiene " to learn more about having a more simple, less

complex raw foods diet.

Peace!

Cherie
