Guest guest
Greetings group, Please allow me to first, formerly introduce myself to you. I am Cherie and I first heard of this group from another group called Veggie Women of Color. I asked if I could join this group seeing that I 1.) Live in Detroit and not the MD, DC area and 2.)I am very, VERY new to raw foodism. But, Elaine graciously allowed me to join. I'm 32 years old, wife, mother of 4 children ages 13, 11, 5 and 1. We are all pretty much vegan although I'm sure if given the opportunity, my children would consume meat (speaking of being away visiting over a friend or relative's house). My husband and I are transitioning to raw. I have been what I guess you could consider " high raw " for the past couple of weeks and I'm leaning towards 100%. Okay, on to the intent of my post. I wear locs in my hair. When I first began researching dreadlocks, everytime I did a search on the Internet, I'd come up with Caucasian-based websites. I had the darndest time finding websites that featured how to lock African hair. I was very dismayed. But, things have since changed and there are more websites with us. So, again, when I started researching raw foodism and raw foodists, the great majority of my searches ended in websites that featured Caucasian individuals, authors, coaches, etc. Now PLEASE, don't get me wrong. I do not have a problem with that and in fact, I have learned very much from those sites and the wonderful people featured on them. But the question comes to mind, " Where are the African descent raw food coaches, authors, web owners? " I know there are " some " out there (Annette Larkins, Storm, and there's a Raw Soul website I came across) and I've also seen from visiting other sites, a few other transformation stories featuring people of our race (Shannon, and another lady whose name I forget). But overall, we don't have much of a presence. Those of you who've been at this for a while, where are your books, videos, websites, products, etc? I think that it is important to get the word out to our people because we have the worse diet to recover from. Yes, the SAD is bad...but the BAD (Black American Diet - pigs feet, chitlins, fried this and that...) is much worse! If lack of web skills is what's stopping anyone, I have some basic skills and it doesn't have to be about monetary recompense as I am VERY open to bartering services and/or goods (recipes, coaching, etc.) So, I just wanted to put that out there and hopefully get something stirred up. I'd LOVE to see more before and after photos, transformation stories, websites, books, tapes and other things by my beautiful people and I'm sure I'm not alone in my sentiment. Comments? Thanks for having me! Peace, Cherie
