Guest guest
Members, Members, Members: Is the course of your week always on fast-forward and riddled with appointments, activities and classes, etc.? You're out of bed before the sun's up, shower, a quick smoothie, green drink or fruit for breakfast? Dash off to work fighting through rush " slow " hour traffic? Later, not sure what to have for lunch so you " Just Eat An Apple? " Work tirelessly all day with no thanks, join the regiment again back home only this time the traffic's slower than it was this morning? You arrive home only to remember that you failed to soak the nuts for nut meat, forgot to turn on the dehydrator in order to have live burgers tonight, or never rinsed the sprouts from day one and they're still sitting in a dark place. Ok, all is not lost, if you have a Vita Mix you can at least make a quick vegetable soup but you don't have the energy. So you grab a tomato or an avocado, spring salad mix, some raw tahini and fresh lemon and wha la, you've got dinner! (I have absolutely no idea what parents do who have to feed kids) Now, if this repeats itself five days a week don't you deserve a break? Sure you do, but what, how and where? We're not fortunate enough yet to have a Raw Resturant in the immediate Metro area so what should you do? ENTER, LYNDA CARTER from Alive and Raw! Yes! Last week, Lynda posted a message informing us that she would be preparing dinners Friday - Sunday featuring: Soul Food Dinners, Live Pizza and desert (cookies). Ron and I and a few other members decided to take advantage of this offer and place an order. Believe me, an early rise on Saturday for shopping and/or house work, 4 hours of bellydancing, then other miscellaneous errands leaves no time for food prep but does leave you with a big appetite. Lynda, we can't thank you enough for the delicious food! I have never had Corn Bread, Spicey Greens, Sweet Potatoes, BBQ Croquettes all LIVE! I would probably live forever had I eaten like this for the past 30 or so years (smile). Everything was right on time and although delicious discribes everything, the greens were to die for!, the sweet potatoes, croquettes and cornbread, and last but not least the LIVE PIZZA! Maybe we can make arrangements for Lynda to come and spend the weekend in this area and prepare meals for all of us! She would serve us well. I'm sure most of you have at one time or another heard the statement " Each One Teach One, " well we can use something similar " Each One Support One. " More seriously members, this is one of the many events we are planning for the group as time goes on. I have more ideas and plans to activate that could be a big success but I need your input. If there's anyone else among the group who enjoys exploiting their culinary skills, please let me know. My background in the culinary arts go all the way back to high school where I had Commercial Cooking. Upon arriving in D.C. (from NC) I worked in Georgetown at the renown Clydes' Resturant along the side my Dad (the Master Chef) as an assistant Chef, I worked a short while at Nathan's Bar and Grill Resturant, was the night Chef and The Guards Resturant, and at Dudley P's Pizzeria I worked the area's first largest salad bar. Although this experience was acquired while preparing foods under the SAD, it made for an easy transition to RAW. In 1978 I worked part- time in D.C.'s first Vege/Raw Resturant in downtown DC (7th & E NW). I believe the name was D.C. Space and what is so ironic, I hadn't a clue at the time what an avocado was when I was instructed to make guacamole.(smile) So come on group, let's get busy! I want to hear from you. Guest guest
All I can say is the food Lynda made was magnificent! We could taste the love in it (we are big on the vibes that food is prepared with as well as the attitude of the person). It was well worth the drive my husband took to get it (he met Lynda half-way in Frederick, VA.). Hey, perhaps next time we take a run to get food from Lynda we (or if someone else on the list makes a run who) can bring things back for other folks as well. We brought food back for Elaine and Ron. They came to pick it up and said they were just going to ‘sample’ it before they got home. I don’t think ANY of it made it back to Rockville with them. HAHA! The live pizza was divine… and the greens, cornbread and yams were raw-licious. In our house, love to prepare and share food and the kitchen is one of our major creative outlets. It’s also nice to relax a bit and taste someone else’s food –their interpretation. Like a hot piece of music. Lynda, you know you got soul! Thanks so much for sharing.
