Guest guest
I just got out of Dr. Doug Graham and Prof. Roz Gruben’s workshop. SO MUCH GREAT INFORMATION. If they are ever in your area, they are a must see!!! They are awesome at explaining the science behind raw/living food. FINALLY THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT!!!!!! I will share briefly with you 2 big pit falls that they say can cause serious damage to your body. Too much fat in your diet. The SAD is about 45% fat and the average raw food diet is 60%. Shocking, isn’t it. Serious damage can be done from too much fat. If you want to evaluate your diet, they gave a website (free) which you can punch in your daily food and it will tell you what percentage of fat/protein/carbohydrates you are consuming. I was shocked that what I considered a pretty good raw day was 49% fat. (Granted, I over indulged in some homemade raw peanut butter…) You will be amazed at how much protein and fat you get from fruits and vegetables alone. The website shows you in a couple of different forms the nutrients in YOUR daily diet. It is easy to use and very eye opening. If you eat only fruits and vegetables you will get approximately 85% of your calories from carbohydrates, 7% from protein and 7% from fat (give or take here or there for an even 100%). The World Health Organization recommends 5% of your diet come from protein. So when someone asks, you can say with confidence, “I get my protein from fruits and vegetables.” They did not say not to eat nuts or seeds by any stretch, but they truly helped me become aware of how much fat and protein are contained in fruits and vegetables. The website www.fitday.com is simple to use and I found it very useful in just evaluating my diet. The second big health issue that they mentioned (without much detail, only as a precautionary) was people who detox extensively through the use of colonics and such. She did not say more than that, so I don’t know any more, the question was not raised again in the workshop. In addition, another little tid bit, Dr Graham gave 4 tips on how to know if you have had enough fruit in a day. YOU NEED MORE FRUIT IF: You need something sweet after a meal. You want something heavy. You crave refined carbohydrates…chocolate, alcohol, candy, dried fruits…. You crave complex carbohydrates I found the two extremely fascinating. I hope you can get to see them sometime. They are truly amazing. www.foodnsport.com is Dr. Graham’s website where you can find some neat retreats that they do. Hope you find this info as useful as I have. BEV
