Guest guest Posted January 10, 2004 Report Share Posted January 10, 2004 I am new to the group--and have also stopped smoking 10 months ago and have gained quite a bit of weight!!!!! I eat the same raw veggies that most everyone else eats raw--salad makings mostly. My question is how do you wash your veggies like Broccoli and Cauliflower? My sister (who lived in CA back in the 70's) taught me many years ago to wash and scrub everything because of the sprays, and especially, with my sister anyhow, some vegetable picker might not have washed their hands after going to the bathroom. She also will not buy foreign vegetables, but that seems to be mostly what I am finding in Publix Supermarkets (FL). She says that the living conditions in some of the countries our food is coming from is not the best. The food is put into crates with whatever bugs and then shipped over here in dirty containers and heaven only knows who touched what and where when they were unloading the food and/or setting up the displays in the produce dept. Broccoli and cauliflower really bother me, tho. I thought I had read somewhere where veggies could be cleaned with vinegar and water--is this correct? I don't imagine anyone can eat raw squash, sweet potatoes or pumpkin or anything in this family. Also some grains, barley, wheatberry And Raw eggs give both Omega 3 and protein. Blend one up with some blueberries and bannaa with enough water to make a smoothie. = >What about rutabagas, corn, and beets. - Rutabagas and beets make great garnishes if they're grated or julienned.
