innovative chefs of the decade.

 

2. CBS-TV’s 48 Hours Investigates investigates raw food.

 

3. Sex and the City writes a raw food restaurant into its plotline.

 

4. The world’s first nightclub featuring raw foods-- Spirit New York--opens

in Manhattan.

 

5. The US obesity epidemic is declared the top food-news story of 2003 by US

newspaper and magazine food editors. To conduct the survey, in late November

2003, Hunter Public Relations contacted more than 1,300 food editors across the

country.

 

6. Urban Outfitters, a retail chain selling funky, fun items to college

students, chooses a raw recipe book (Juliano’s Raw) to display on the one

table of

books in their stores, along with such titles as: Big Hair; Position of the

Day: Sex Every Day in Every Way; and How to Spot a Bastard by His Star Sign.

 

7. Three raw restaurants open in one season in New York City: Bonobo’s,

Jubb’

s Delicateria, and Soul (in the nightclub Spirit New York), and several

regular restaurants (including Daily Soup and Counter) add raw dishes to their

menus.

 

8. Roxanne’s To-Go, the first chain of raw delis in the world, opens in

Larkspur, CA.

 

9. Sprout Raw Food, Inc. of Atlanta, launches Sprout Raw Food Creations, a

line of takeout items for sale in retail stores throughout the US.

 

10. Japan, the largest importer of beef in the world, goes raw-vegan

food-crazy. Engine, a thick Japanese glossy magazine about cars, chooses
