How can I do this? Seriously ! Any Ideas? - 2 ways. Buy a foundering existing chain of sandwich shops and switch the menus. This way the locations are all set and chain work can happen. You will of course need lotsa money. 2) Start with one, learn the business, MAKE MONEY, and then expand one at a time and a soon as you have a succesful formula, Franchise them. MacDonald's, BK, and Wendy's do not sell crap because they want you to eat it, they sell crap BECAUSE IT SELLS. First, you have to educate a market niche. Good luck, I've seen many try number 2) and fail in the marketplace. And above all get a good location. Remember the Founder of MacDonald's misson statement. " We're in the Real estate business; We sell hamburgers to pay for the real estate. " Ray Krok sold Francises for stake money which he took to the Bank as downpayment for the real estate with a guaranteed tenant. He then rented the real estate to his Francisee and pocketed the difference between the mortgage he paid and the rent he collected. When the real estate was his, he bought back the francisees until now 90% of MacDonald's outlets are corporate stores, not franchises. Soon you will see Hi-rises on those properties with a small MacDonlads outlet on the ground floor. It's a real estate buisiness, and now MacDonald's owns more real estate than any other corporation. rusty - " phunkyluva " <phunkyluva <rawfood > Monday, November 17, 2003 1:51 PM [Raw Food] raw-foods & sprouts stores ??? > G'day all, > > I'd like to start a new chain of fast-food restaurants to counter > the fast-food epidemic of obesity & disease that we have here in > america. Guest guest
-Phunky: There was a small restaurant chain I recall in Florida (in Tampa, at least) about 20 years ago that I visited. They had all the nutritional information re the food on cards and on display. They had veggie burgers, I think sweet potato fries, and yogurt for dessert. I liked it, but I think people have a hard time transitioning from " regular " fast food. I think healthier eating is getting more play with the fast food restaurants having more choices as far as salads and Burger King does have a veggie burger. Then again, you have the whole " gotta have protein " mentality which also gets people thinking they have to have meat or they will get immediately sick and die... Or in the Atkins diet craze, people gorge themselves on protein. I think things are improving, but it is a total mindset. As people come closer to realizing their way of eating is killing themselves and the planet, more changes will come. I do not think it will come overnight. Plus, you have residual effect of parents teaching their kids only what they know. When I was growing up I ate in a very traditional manner, meat, bread, fruits and veggies. Except, we made our own bread, ate our own veggies and fruits from the garden or local farmers. We didn't have much junk food because we couldn't " afford " it. But, I didn't know anything much about how much I should of something, didn't know much about pesticides except to make sure I washed my apples first, and knew nothing of general nutrition. How could I if my parents didn't and no one told me? With everything supersized (think of what a McDonald's regular fries was like 30 years ago) everyone is overindulging. Some people think its their " right " to do so, just as it is to use as much gas, electricity, or other resources. Until that whole entitlement thinking changes, there cannot be great change. I like your idea, I would go.....but you also have to think of who the overall picture...economics...group thinking. Sprouts are great but have a short " shelf " life and a lot of effort has to go into them to grow them correctly and make sure they don't start to " turn. " I'd say, a hard item to turn over quickly....
