I've been lurking awhile and doing quite a bit of reading concerning the benefits of raw food. I recently purchased a book entitled " Raw-The Uncook Book " which has a lot of simple raw recipes. However, despite all of my reading, I'm still very confused on how to plan my meals to insure that I eat enough protein. Can someone here give me an idea of what you would eat for a day if you're doing light weight training and cardio each week? *** Our bodies synthesize amino acids from all the vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds we eat, to create complete protein. I can also tell from the recipe book I purchased that eventually I will have to invest in a dehydrater and juicer for convenience. Lastly, is it ok to drink water from a pitcher that uses filters? Is that good enough? Or do I need to buy store bought distilled/filtered water? I read that tap water destroys enzymes or something like that. *** Tap water contains chlorine and usually also fluoride and is not pure. There are different points of view as to whether distilled or filtered water is better. Or mineral water. You might want to read several books to see what you decide. But a pitcher that uses filters wouldn't be enough filtering, in my opinion. Guest guest
Hi Lily, I can sure you I'm not an expert neither a perfect raw foodist for advising to you how to do it... Only I'm going to show you how I have taken my own approach to a cheap and no-apparatus (dehidrators, juicers...) raw eating: Brekfast: I take nothing but fresh water -or Maybe an apple if I'm hungry (not usually) Lunch: Some fruit (1 -2 pieces) -and Green salad (a lot of green leaves, and few more ingredients) -and Either nuts (2 oz) or raw fish (3 oz) Dinner: Non sugar fruit salad (cucumber or tomato or pepper) with olives -and Raw or slightly steamed vegetables (one pound) -and Two raw egg yolks or 1.5 oz of nuts. All my salads are dressed with a drops of raw olive oil and some fresh herbs. Sometimes I also use seeds (pumpkin, sesame...) As you can see, no juicers, no equipment and very interesting meals... Guest guest
Coffee: 2-4 oz wheatgrass juice or other green drink Breakfast: Four apples, or lots of other fruit, or a large bowl of berries, large peice of watermelon ect. Water Lunch: Greens, such as romaine, spring mix, spinach, cabbage. Add sprouts and a few seeds. Snack: Green drink, juice, or fruit. Dinner: Here is where you may want to go " gourmet " Raw for a while. With nuts, dates, Raw pizza. Use Napa Cabbage leaves as your bread. Dehydrator goodies ect.. So through this plan you have lots of protein and balance through nuts, seeds, sprouts, a variety of greens and fruits. Oils through avacado and nuts, flax seed crackers ect. Guest guest
Lilly and w For what it is worth as someone who is 100% your diets set out below is a mess. A basic error is that you mix vegetables and fruit too much. Your stomach treats vegetables and fruit differently. By mixing them up, you set up the conditions for flatulence and stomach pains. I bet you feel that yolk. The source of your nuts is unclear - are they really fresh or are they dehydrated? Steaming the vegetables will simply create work for the pancreas to break down this processed food. Same for the olives unless they are on the special size.. The raw fish will almost certainly putrefy before it gets through your gut, To straighten it up, I suggest you eat a pint or more of fruit in the morning. Nor a bad idea to eat until you are full. The green leaves at lunch are good as long as you are getting about 1lb. You could add tomatoes, courgettes etc. Same at dinner although I lend to vary the leaf eating lettuce at lunch. For dinner shift over to spinach. Either at lunch or dinner I might eat an avocade, add low sugar fruit, tomato, red peppers. On other days substitute Kale or cabbage. I buy a cauliflower and broccoli the week. In no week do I buy all of this. Dinner could easily be just spinach and a tomato for instance. I say all this realising that it may upset. Furthermore wiser members should fault me and provide any constructive input they can. Peter rawsunlife [no_reply ] 06 November 2003 11:36 rawfood [Raw Food] Re: Questions on how to begin???
