Guest guest
Hello folks, This morning I bought a copy of " Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine " by Dr. Gabriel Cousens. This book is amazing! I can't wait to read it. Chapter 5 is " Health Secrets of Live Foods " . The first section of this chapter is titled " Benefits of Calorie Restriction " and the second section is " Live Foods- A Natural Way of Calorie Restriction " . I am very happy to find this because most of the calorie restricted articles deal with cooked foods. In this chapter, he discusses longevity research and writes " Dr. Kenneth Pelletier, as part of his longevity research, studied cultures that had the highest longevity and created the healthiest people, such as in the Vilcabamban region in Ecuador (particulrly the Vilcabamban Indians), the Hunzas of West Pakistan, the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico, and the Russian people of the Abkhasian region. He found that they ate significantly less total calories, about 50% less than the typical American diet. " (page 101) On page 102 he writes " In a review of all the research, one finds that some of the increases in life span were 50%, other research shows 65%, and even as high as 83% extension of life span. In other words, food restriction or calorie restriction is a sound and experimentally proven way to exend life span. Calorie restrction is the only thing we know that is able to consistently slow aging in all varieties of animals, including the various mammalian species. " On page 107 he writes " ... one need only eat approximately half the amount of food and calories on a live-food diet as on a cooked-food diet to get an equivalent amount of vitamins, minerals, protein, and phytonutrients. On a healthy live-food regime one automatically gets the anti-aging calorie-restriction effect without having to diet. " He also mentions that " Periodic fasting as we have known for centuries, is one of the most powerful ways to extend life and minimize chronic disease. " (p. 108) This book is amazing! I have kept swinging between a vegan live- food diet and vegetarian live-food diet. After reading what Gabriel has to say about raw milk and eggs, I am back to my vegan diet! I think it was David Wolfe who said he loves to eat, and the less you eat, the longer you live, and the more you get to eat. Here is a neat article focusing on Demi Moore: http://www.thegardendiet.com/news/demi.html Have a great day!
