Hi everyone,

I'm looking into importing Durian to Israel... seems like we can't do

without it anymore :)

Does anyone know of a good supplier? I'm not sure where you get them

from in the US (Thailand), because we import a lot of Thai produce to

Israel, so I'm sure it won't be a problem...

I would really appreciate a name and or phone number.

also, in the long run I think it would be best to grow it here...

does anyone know anything about the requirements - most tropical

foods grow quite well here :) - where can I get seeds? any

information would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Leah

Hi Leah,

I know someone who grows exotic fruits in Hawaii. He has one durian

tree that produced only 12 fruit last year as it's still young.

He said that Israel is at the forefront of ag research when it comes

to fruit. Durian requires alot of water and deep soil, which could

be a problem. Thailand exports both fresh and frozen.

  • 3 months later...

here's another rumor about durian...

the durian's that have gotten too ripe to handle (shipping) are shelled

out and packaged in foil or similar containers and then frozen

these are potentially the tastiest durian available becuz they have tree

ripened

i personally resist buying packaged food but i just may hafta test it

out some day :)

with whole frozen durian i usually find the fruits that have cracks in

them near the flower end are the tastiest

i've assumed the cracks are a sign of maturity

norm  :))~

......  raw food, simply wonderful  .....
